Contribution Statistics for the Edited Guide
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
Here are some statistics about contributions to the Edited Guide, pulled out of the Guide on 5 October. If anything seems amiss, please let us know in the Forum below - we have done everything we can to ensure that these stats are accurate, but we accept no reponsibility for the effects if we've made a typo.
As all statistics can be interpreted in many ways, we'll leave it up to the reader to draw their own conclusions!
General Stats for the Edited Guide
On 5 October, there were 3122 Edited Entries in the Guide (note this figure includes all entries, including collaborative entries).
Breakdown by Number of Researchers
Breaking these down by looking at the number of Researchers in the 'Written and Researched by' list (and ignoring the Editor field), the number of Edited Entries with specific numbers of authors are as follows:
# Author(s) | # Entries with that many authors |
1 | 2705 |
2 | 180 |
3 | 55 |
4 | 24 |
5 | 14 |
6 | 16 |
7 | 6 |
8 | 7 |
9 | 7 |
10 | 5 |
> 10 | 103 |
In other words, 2705 Edited Entries have a single Researcher, 180 have two Researchers, and 103 have ten or more Researchers.
Breakdown by Number of Entries per Author
Those 3122 entries have been written by 2183 distinct authors.
# Edited Entries | # Author(s) with that # of Edited Entries |
1 | 1403 |
2 | 304 |
3 | 140 |
4 | 81 |
5 | 43 |
6 | 33 |
7 | 17 |
8 | 24 |
9 | 20 |
10 | 11 |
> 10 | 107 |
So 1403 Researchers have a single Edited Entry listed on their Spaces, 304 have two, and 107 Researchers have more than ten entries listed on their Spaces.
Who's Writes What
Now, just taking the 2705 entries with single authors, let's break these down by author and count how many entries each author has produced (remember these are single-author entries, not all the entries that will appear on their Spaces. We omit multiple-author entries because, in the current system, it is impossible to distinguish the level of contribution - it might be a single comment in a huge entry, which would affect the results.
Summarising the number of distinct authors (including staff) who have written a specific number of single-author entries - 1228 of them - we get the following:
# Single-author entries | # Author(s) with that many Single-author Entries |
1 | 834 |
2 | 182 |
3 | 78 |
4 | 39 |
5 | 22 |
6 | 13 |
7 | 7 |
8 | 8 |
9 | 8 |
10 | 5 |
> 10 | 32 |
TOTAL: | 1228 |
In other words, 834 Researchers have written a single, single-author Edited Entry, and 32 Researchers have written more than ten single-author Edited Entries.
Here's the breakdown by individual author, with the most prolific author first. We have pulled out staff and put them in a separate table at the bottom, because some of their earlier entries skipped Peer Review, and are therefore slightly different.
Author | Single-author Edited Entries Written |
Richard | 35 |
Ashley | 24 |
Peta | 23 |
Mark Moxon | 18 |
Sam | 4 |
Abi | 4 |
Anna | 2 |
Jim Lynn | 1 |
Spirit | 1 |
DNA | 1 |
TOTAL | 113 |
