SuperMarket XXVI: Fleafall

The Classic Goo monster in an h2g2 T shirtHello, and welcome to the latest edition of Super Market, the update of everything exciting taking place in h2g2's own Flea Market.

Pushing to 300

There is a milestone tantalisingly close which I am confident that we can reach this year. At the moment there are 295 recognised Flea Market Rescues. Let's get to 300 by the end of 2017!

Alternative Writing Workshop

Every year we try to have a bit of a spring clean. In 2012/13 the Flea Market itself was freed of entries that did not make our high standards. In 2014 the Peer Review Sin Bin was emptied. In 2015 the University of Life was tidied and in 2016 the Collaborative Writing Workshop was cleared. It is now 2017 and this year the Flea Market team is investigating the Alternative Writing Workshop. At the start of the year there were 2,296 entries in the AWW. That means that if I investigate an average of 25 entries a day, in 100 days I can stop.

So what does this actually mean? Well, we are looking through the AWW to see if any of the entries there actually fall into the criterion to be worthy of the Flea Market and have the potential to form the basis of an entry in the Edited Guide. We are also looking to see if there are any entries in the AWW that have been moderated or deleted – there is no point in keeping entries without content there as it would put readers off looking for all the enjoyable entries that are well worth reading.

So far, the following entries have been removed from the Alternative Writing Workshop as we feel they have the right stuff to make it into the Flea Market and then the Edited Guide itself:

I am delighted to reveal that even though this effort is still only halfway complete, two entries have been identified and rescue attempts made. These are on Homemade Lemon Curd and The 2004 Firework Disaster in Kolding, Denmark, both rescued by SashaQ

One other entry has recently been moved into the Flea Market. This was an entry on Vienna, Austria which has been replaced in the Edited Guide by one that covers the city in far more depth, however it was felt that the entry had potential for an entry on the song of the same name.

If you know anything about the topics, or think you would find learning about them interesting, why not see if you can help these entries get to the Front Page where they deserve?

Remember, if you see an entry that qualifies for inclusion in the Flea Market, let me know!

Meanwhile, nine entries in the Flea Market have been recommended.

We look forward to these reaching the Front Page!

Featured Rescue

This month's featured rescue is Isaac Asimov by h5ringer, based on

This is because I learned from reading the Post that Dmitri actually saw Asimov in person and I'm jealous.
