I think I'll give "The Good German" a miss... the only Soderbergh films I've liked were "Bubble" and "Schizopolis"; he's made a lot more unwatchable stuff.
Last night we ran our DVD of "The Loved One" over to our favorite local theater (a gorgeous old one that has been fully restored in recent years) to test it on their system. We're renting the theater out next Sunday for a private screening for my beloved's birthday, and that's the film we're showing for our guests. I've never seen it on the big screen- it'll be great.

I've gone and rented both series of 'Life on Mars' - also I ferretted out a copy of Twister (that got some looks of the counter staff - it was at the bottom of the bargain bucket at the back of the store)
I bought it for £1.

"In Bruges".
It was pretty good. Given some of the reviews I'd heard, I expected something spectacularly violent, but I've seen a lot worse. I thought most of the characters were reasonably well developed, and found the film entertaining, if quite predictable. It's nothing I'd want to view repeatedly, but I'm glad I've seen it once.
Then, for a special treat, we watched a second film last night- dragged out our copy of "Re-Animator" for some silly horror. It's as funny and so-cheesy-it's-good as it was when I first saw it while in junior high school. I like to watch it every couple of years or so, for a chuckle.

And in Mol-land, where we are still several years behind everybody else ...
... we watched Fargo. It was brilliant. There just aren't enough superlatives

I've got Fargo on my wishlist.
We watched Sweeny Todd. Totally mad.

I've just watched the 2nd Pirates of the Caribbean film. Total tosh but I love it. I watched that with the Gruesome Twosome which is always fun.
After that I watched Persepolis without the Gruesomes. That's probably one of the best things I've seen all year.

What's Persepolis about?
Didn't like PoC2 though. Over-long, under-interesting.

Persepolis is an animated film about a girl growing up in, and out of, revolutionary Iran.

We saw Persepolis recently, too, and I'd also recommend it. Definitely one of the best new films we've seen all year.

Dark Knight was pretty fab. It felt long, but not in a bad way. I think that was because there were a few points when I thought 'Oh, this must be the final sequence' and it wasn't. Top class acting all round, pretty decent script and clearly sets up the franchise for Batman prequel number 3.

I wouldn't fancy being the person to direct the next one. I cannot see Nolan doing a third, and to be honest I cannot quite imagine how you could top it.
It would inevitably be a disappointment I reckon. For my the Dark Knight is much the best superhero film I have ever seen.

I've just watched 1408 on DVD.
Mediocre. The scary bits need *SUDDEN LOUD MUSIC* to make them scary. The plot is predictable - even with it's "unpredictable" bit. Ending is dull. Note to Steven King - you did that in Carrie. That was 30 years ago.

Saw Wall-E last weekend - pretty much what you'd expect. A pleasant way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Took daughter to Mamma Mia last night. We both agreed it worked better as a stage show. I'd always had my misgivings about the cast, and I was right. None of them are great singers, although I was moved to tears by both The Winner Takes it All and Slipping Through My Fingers. Brosnan in particular struggles with the songs.
As a film....it had one dream sequence (Money) and didn't really show us enough of that gorgeous scenery.
4/10
One to buy for Grandma this Christmas.
