I went to see The Dark Knight today in the kinematographaus.
Yup, good (look away now Psychocandy).
Mr. Crowe does kinda steal the show. Myself and HI discussed how one particular sequence could have happened and decided that actually, it couldn't work that way.
LOOK AWAY NOW!!! SPOILERS!!!
The bit with the hospital exploding

Other than that, we felt it was pretty good. Heath Ledger stole the show from...whoever it was that played the bat character.

Watched Babel yesterday, excellent work. I love stories of disparate lives brought together by chance, this is one of the best I've seen. But having watched Three Burials recently I didn't think I'd be able to say I had two films which feature someone having one off the wrist in the middle of the desert, only to be interrupted by gunfire. Perhaps it'll become a meme.

Last night we went to see "What We Do is Secret", a bio-pic about Darby Crash and the Germs. I thought it was really well done. Hopefully it gets a DVD release so we can get it and watch it again.
Netflix had some shipping issues this week, and we had a 2 1/2 day power outage the week before, so we haven't been able to watch too many DVDs. But we just received a new release, Guy Maddin's "Brand Upon the Brain", which I'm really looking forward to seeing, maybe later today...

Just watched "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" and it is really rather splendid....
Really adds to the Batman mythos for those enthused post Dark Knight....

Will that one be interesting to watch for someone who didn´t get any of Sonnenallé?

I'll be interested to see Tropic Thunder. Especially after the appearance of Ben stiller on The Daily Show.
However next movie I'm scheduled to see is Hellboy 2: The Golden Army when it is released on Wednesday.
Hellboy just finished on Chanel 5 so I guess that qualifies as my most recently watched, although prior to that I did rather enjoy Stargate Continuum which was broadcast on Sky the other day
Before that that diehard 4.0. Stunts were good story was a bit so-so, almost non-stop action. Tune in switch off higher brain functions. Enjoy.

Watched a couple of British movies "Starter for 10 and "The History Boys"
Liked them both nothing nothing spectcular ineither of them just really nice films and oneof them nearly made me cry. Dont know if that says more about me than the film?
If you grew up in the 80s or if you didnt but were supposed to then I think you'll like them.

I haven't seen Sonnenallé
With Das Leben der Anderen I don't know. I'm not a big fan of subtitles, which restricts my film viewing somewhat. I watched the last few years of the cold war very very closely indeed, and have been interested in Russian/Soviet history for a long long time.
Having grown up during the cold war, and living where I have for most of my life I think I got a lot more out of it than other people who aren't so wrapped up in it all.
But I'd say give it a try. It really is a fantastic study of characters.

I know I've already said it, but we enjoyed "Das Leben der Anderen" so much we got ourselves a copy and watched it two more times already.
Fortunately I don't mind subtitles, or I wouldn't have seen half of the films I have.
Last night we watched "Brand Upon the Brain", and it was excellent.

Last night I watched American Gangster on DVD.
For the first hour I thought "this isn't as good as it looked when I saw the trailers at the cinema", and considered abandoning the rest of the film. I didn't, though, and by the end it had improved somewhat.
So in the end, it turned out to be both worse than I was expecting, and better than I thought it would be.
I wouldn't watch it again though.

Hmm. Not much film-watching been going on?
I watched Brick on DVD the other night. I sort of got the drift of what was going on. It's all a bit obscure, though. Didn't think it was particularly good, it required too much working out for what turned out to be quite a banal story.

I didn't care much for Brick, either. Mostly because none of the characters were likeable enough to care at all about.
Still trying to catch up from the Netflix shiping fiasco, but we've watched a couple of older films over the last few days; "Onibaba", and Bergman's "Hour of the Wolf". They're both excellent.

Hellboy II.
Matches the tone of the comics much better than the first one did. Brilliant fun. Maybe a *little* bit of overkill in the set-piece department, but still a fantastic film.

The Dark Knight - I agree that Heath Ledger's Joker stole the film. Posthumous Oscar, anyone?
This afternoon cheered myself up with Move Over, Darling, my favourite Doris Day film with James Garner. Even my son sat through that, the lines in it are still I loved the Judge and the mother-in-law characters and Andrew thought the man in the shoeshop who gets hit on by Doris was funny, and the hotel manager and assistant discussing the sexual prowess of their guest

I saw The Dark Knight yesterday, and I would say it lived up the first one. Though I´m not sure it is as good and amazing as the hype makes out. Still really good though, even if a bit less realism than the first.
Surely Brick must get some extra points for having the sexy little doll De Ravin in it?
