Pipe cleaning in Rangiora [my town]

Rangiora residents are being asked to cover their loos as the sewerage network is cleaned and inspected.
A high pressure water jet will be blasted down the pipes to clean them and then they will be inspected with closed circuit television to ensure the pipes are in good condition and there has been no damage from the recent earthquakes.
While it is rare for water to blow up through toilets the council is suggesting residents cover it with a towel and leave the seat and lid down, secured by a something heavy like a telephone book.
Council’s utilities manager, Gary Boot, says the survey and maintenance programme will take place over the next two weeks by a drainage company contracted by the council.
The work involves council pipes, some of which run through private property. It does not include individual private connecti0on pipes or house drains.
Properties directly affected will have a leaflet delivered bform the council.
Mr Boot wants residents to contact the council immediately if water is blown from their loos so that any problems can be dealt with immediately.
