I watched parts one, two (skipping the Spiro Agnew bits) and three this evening and I have bleeding tears in my eyes just like Cronkite and Schirra. I was in a hotel room with my parents and older brothers somewhere in Eastern Canada, I think, on July 20, 1969. I'm certain that my parents made a point of finding (on that summer's trip to one of our country's coasts) a hotel with a TV that night of all nights so that we could watch the broadcast from the Moon.

A little over two decades later, I drove a 1969 VW bus (yes, it had flowers all over itsmiley - smiley) from Edmonton, Alberta to the U.S./Mexico border (I didn't want to cross for fear of not being allowed backsmiley - laugh) and back again (with lots of winding about from Texas to California) and I don't think a day went by on that journey that I didn't think to myself that I was puttering along in a machine that had been built in the same year that Apollo 11 flew, that Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins went to the Moon and back in a machine from the same era as the tin can I was trying to hold together with bits of wire and a spare battery as I crossed the Mojave desert.

I just don't know what to think about the pace of technological development. Sure, I've got a telephone which has more computing power than all of NASA in 1969, but surely such power should be used to send a mission to Mars rather than endless sessions of Angry Birds on the toilet.smiley - erm

"Son, note this. This is living history" (to a 6 year old)

We bought a copy of all the (UK) newspapers we could find. Ms Stress took them to work and photographed the front pages (with permission - a copy for her bosses). We still have the papers and the negatives, somewhere (I think).

Ten years later while at the cape, we offered the local paper free copies... no answer was the stern reply.

Cremated and scattered at sea.

Now they should actively promote the Neo-Natzis to pilgrimmage to his new resting spot. 14 miles out in the North sea sounds like a good place to put them smiley - laugh
