I have just found out that the things I thought were porpoises were not - they were whales!

so this has been the best thing for today....I have been here years and not seen them, but been told they swim past.

if you have FB you can probably see this photo of them taken by someone else. The foggy picture is because we were having a sand storm ( Calima) so it is all hazy.

Last time I had an experience like that, I was on top of a hundred meter cliff overlooking the beach and happened to see a pair of gray whales swimming by.

Thinking, "Drat! I'll never be able to make it back down this cliff and get in the water before those whales are long gone.", I sat back to watch the show.

A couple of swimmers in the parking lot who were putting away their surfing gear saw the whales as well, raced from the parking lot to the water and swam out to intercept the whales.

Though the swimmers were in the right place in time to intercept the whales, had the whales had continued swimming on the surface, the whales submerged a hundred meters short of the swimmers and re-emerged a hundred meters past them.

Ha! Animalkind: 1, Mankind: 0

I looked outside at dusk yesterday and noticed something in the field opposite. I opened the front door to get a better look and realised it was a deer, one of the little ones - muntjack is it? I walked to the edge of the garden, it didn't move. I walked accross the road, it didn't move but stared at me, I tried to appear and unthreatening as possible and stepped onto the edge of the field. I got to within about 20 ft of it before it spooked and bounced off.

The day before the best thing was not that I was woken up by t'Other crying loudly at 3am. I calmed him down, gave him a cuddle then he went back off to sleep. I whispered 'night night darling' on my way out and got an unexpected 'love you mummy, see you in the morning'.

The bestists thing yesterday, was being with William all afternoon, and going out for lunch... Going to the pub in the evening with a friend, was runner up to that

Eating supper on the balcony with a friend, the oppressive heat from the last few days having passed over, we were able to enjoy the coolness at last.

Finally deciding a path for future outside work and the strange hours I keep!

Being taken out for lunch by former colleagues.

Starting a new D&D campaign. I'm playing a pixie warlock called Aldebaran Altair.

The best thing yesterday was spending the afternoon, and a bit of the morning out and about with William talking.. We visited the Beer festavil, which was good too, of course, but being with William was the main thing... Oh, and what we did after the beer festavil back at mine too...

I watched the delightfully silly Iron Sky at Cornerhouse cinema . They were only showing it *once* due to problems with the distributor, and the screening sold out. The BBFC certification card was cheered , and the distributor's credit booed.

I found out my school is going to be refurbished/rebuilt and I'll get an office with a functional roof. It also means the school probably won't close down.

I enjoyed the cool evening air, which after the run of cold weather we've had, was also quite a novelty.

My daughter, who had commandeered my grey pashmina that I bought in Venice, gave me a replacement, which is a good qaulity one, very soft and silky, in a pale silvery grey.

I got to take two nice Spaniards round our factory and they complimented me on my English!
