You can call me TC

I've not seen this thread before. So this is the first time I've posted. Rather a strange idea, posting retrospectively and by the time someone reads it it'll be "what happened last week". Hmm. Odd.

Anyway, yesterday was Mother's Day here in Germany and the best thing was that all three of my sons phoned me.

I phoned my mother, but I don't think she was pleased because she was watching the Young Musician of the Year.

The best /two/ things that happened yesterday were, firstly, that Walt and I sorted out his room. It's nice working together. smiley - smiley Then I had a long bath whilst listening to the Dirk Gently audiobook I got for my birthday. smiley - zen

I completed the demolition phase of digging out my new planting bed. I hurt, but it's a ~good~ hurt.

Literal demolition or 'just' digging? I did the digging in March and am watching with excitement as things are actually starting to come up now. smiley - smiley

I removed about 75 square feet of sod. Next is to refill the area with garden soil and plant my daylillies and another perennial as yet to be determined.

It is good to complete a job like that, isn't it? I felt the same when I finsihed digging my pond and could finally line it. smiley - frog

I got to meet a good friend's 3 legged cat.

The friend gives foster homes to abused rabbits, and has a soft spot for all animals, especially those in need. She'd been worried about having a cat given that she already had so many bunnies, but merlin the tripod is a very special puddy-tat indeed.

I just don't get the strong feelings that some football fans get about other teams. It makes no differnce to me who wins what. If Utd win OK, so what. If City win, OK, so what.

However, if AFC Wimbledon had £930,000,000 to spend over the next 4 years, we could grind those b%$*&%&$ down the road in Crawley into the ground.

Slightly late but I was shattered yesterday. The best thing that happened to me the day before yesterday was I did this: http://www.xcleague.com/xc/flights/2012996.html?vx=0112

If you don't want to follow the link... I launched my paraglider near Welshpool in Powys and landed two hours later and forty seven kilometres away near Ludlow in Shropshire. It's four times my previous personal best distance.

And the second best thing was hitchhiking back. I've never hitchhiked in my life before, and it's a really positive experience (at least when you don't have to wait more than five minutes for a lift, which on a sunny Saturday afternoon on the A49 with smile and a sign saying "GLIDER PILOT" I didn't). And yes, at all times I knew where my towel was.

Having a fear of heights, I've never considered doing something like that Hoo. But right now the idea of being up in the great blue for a couple of hours is really appealing. smiley - smiley I have hitchhiked though, many moons ago. smiley - ok

Y'know how surfers talk about "Big Wednesday"?

For paragliders, May 12th was "Big Saturday". It was, bar none, the most epic day in British cross country paragliding history. Eighty one people made XC flights, for a total score of six THOUSAND kilometres. (For comparison, the previous biggest day ever was 9/8/07, when 57 pilots logged just over four thousand km).

Two dozen people flew over 100km, including all the other three people in the car I went in. A round half dozen flew over a hundred MILES - a very rare feat in the UK. One guy got over 200 kilometres, only the second person ever to do so, and within sight, literally, of the British record. And the women's XC distance record was broken by a lady I spent an hour thermalling with earlier in the day... and that record lasted less than 24 hours before being comprehensively smashed on Sunday. It was a truly awesome weekend to be flying, and I was privileged to be a part of it.

As someone who's rather fond of surf (if not a bona fide smiley - surfer) I have to admit I didn't know about 'big Wednesday'. smiley - blush

But your description of your day is truly uplifting (pun not intended). smiley - smiley
