Although not strictly a film as such, I finally got round to watching No Holds Bard today and I feel the need to tell everyone how brilliant it is

"Star Trek into darkness" is not yet available in my area. It opens next Friday, with late night previews on Thursday. Movies that are playing
right now include "Great Gatsby," "Peeples," "Iron Man 3" "Pain and Gain," "The Big Wedding," "The Croods" and "42." The 4th one mentioned is reckoned to be not worth watching, and the last-named one is thought to be a disappointment compared with it should have been.

Olympus Has Fallen.
Brilliant. Die Hard/Panic Room in the White House with the added bonus of Morgan Freeman.
My film of the year so far, and I've yet to see Trek.

Just got back from Go Goa Gone, a Bollywood zombie comedy-type film. Bit of a parody of a lot of films: zombie, Hollywood and Bollywood. Very, very funny.
Now if FB posts something similar I'll *know* he's stalking me.

I do enjoy a good zombie film! I've got a couple to watch - Outpost and Outpost 2 - and my claim to fame is that I'm friends with the director's girlfriend
As part of my Scottish season I watched Soft Top Hard Shoulder. It's not that well known but it is enjoyable, plus there's a great moment when Richard Wilson appears and it goes all weird because he uses his native Greenock accent.

Don't feel bad. I'm sure here are many places where you can't see many of them.

Has anyone mentioned the Great Gatsby yet? My colleagues went to see it on Wednesday and said that Leo di Caprio was brilliant as ever, and the film was amazing to look at.
Ah. I see that it's not out in the UK till this weekend.
I can't believe we have a film in Germany before the English-speaking world has it.

Some parts of the English-speaking world *do* have "The Great Gatsby." It opened in the Boston area last Friday. I saw it Tuesday night, normally a very slow night. However, "Great Gatsby" was mobbed by mostly young people, who seemed to enjoy it a lot. It had a lot of flash and sizzle, and the casting seemed superb. The camera moved around a lot. Some might find that frenetic and distracting, but somehow I think it suited the movie's go-for-broke pleasure-seeking mentality.

I might go and watch the Great Gatsby because Gruesome #1 would like to see it. I don't like the book and I'm not that bothered about the story telling in the film, but I am a sucker for that Art Deco look so that is a draw for me.
I saw Star Trek Into Darkness last night and all I can say is: WOW! I loved it. I don't care that it is all in your face, obvious and whatever. Totally fab.

I'll probably see Star Trek on Monday or Tuesday. The trailers shown some breathtaking plunges off cliffs. That's always exhilarating.

I seem to have had a very filmy week this week: topped it off with a visit to see The Great Gatsby. I really enjoyed it, it was beautiful to look at, though I didn't feel there was too much substance to it.
Leonardo Di Caprio is one of those actors who is just getting better and better with age. At this point I'd listen to him read a dictionary.

I've thought he was brilliant since he was robbed of the Best Supporting actor Oscar (I think) for What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I'm not keen on The Great Gatsby but I think I'll see the film for the look of it.
I watched Marvel's Avengers today. Fantastic fun.

I was hooked by Leo from Marvin's Room onwards. Shame about the face.

I agree about "What's Eating Gilbert Grape." DiCaprio was praised for his acting in that. I wasn't as taken with his work in "Marvin's Room," but at least he seemed more credible than Meryl Streep. I thought Streep was miscast there. Diane Keaton blew away, and Hume Cronyn was awesome. I thought it was one of the best movies ever made.

My DVD of choice as an alternative to the ubiquitous footie match last night was "Rock of Ages". When the singing started, I thought "Oh no!", but then I realised they were really taking the mickey out of those 80s songs and the whole 80s thing. I laughed a lot - mostly at that duet between Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand (I mean, what a combination - who'd ever have thought of it?!?!) and was grinning and crying the whole way through. It was just so over the top and silly, you can't help but enjoy it. As everyone said at the time, no idea why Russell Brand can't talk normal. His accent hopped from Birmingham to Liverpool via Cardiff and then back to his normal voice (probably he had a different accent for every day of shooting - )
Anyway, I know I am alone in this, but I Alec Baldwin, who played a similar sort of ancient hippie character to Alan Alda in "Wanderlust" (I am almost embarrassed to say I even saw Wanderlust - went with a crowd fo girls from work)
Apparently the football match wasn't half as exciting.
Key: Complain about this post
