Still one of the best scripts ever shot on film.
"Oh you're in the red? I'm a mushroom cloud layin' *ahem*, *ahem* I'm Superfly TNT! I'm the Guns of The Navarrone! In fact, why am I in the back? You're the *cough* should be on brain detail! We're *ahem* switchin'! I'm washing the windows and you're picking up pieces of this *cough*'s skull!"

"You are aware that home entertainment is a thing, right?"
My TV set has a built-in DVD player, but I use it as a last resort.
Entertainment Weekly has several "100 best lists," including best movies, best novels, best albums, and best plays. If I wanted to catch up on movies that I missed, I could use the movies list as a starting point. I'm lucky that I took a "Golden age of Hollywood" film course many years ago. It was heaven!
I've often used movies as a way of getting exposure to great books that I'm unlikely ever to muster the energy to read. As for the greatest plays list, I'm glad "Our Town" was on the list. I remembering being in that one in a high school production.

I watched John Carter of Mars the other day, figuring it might be worth something despite it flopping badly. Nope, I didn't manage to finish it.
I also watched the Star Trek Babies movies. I grew up watching TNG and I guess The Old Series was different, but I was a bit disappointed by how little science or engineering played a part in the movies.

Yes John Carter was disappointing I think we failed to finish it too. Just a big mess of stuff with not coherent story...

"John Carter" seemed okay on a fifty-foot screen. It probably doesn't translate well to a television set. It's a preposterous story, but the visuals were fine.
Not the best movie I've ever seen by a long shot, but far from the worst. I walked away from "Stoker" in disgust after the weird uncle started breaking the necks of his niece's beaus. I've seen Oscar-nominated movies ["Tree of Life" and "Take Shelter," for instance] that were too downbeat or disorganized to endure.

Watched Star Trek First Contact on Film 4 last night. It's quite strange to think it's over 15 years old, it's really stood the test of time and is probably my favourite Star Trek film.

Hyde Park on Hudson
Bill Murray plays FDR during a visit by the King of Britain, as seen through the eyes of his "friend".
Lovely film, quite enjoyed that.

I saw "The Heat," which paired Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy as a couple of cops in Boston. It was hilarious. It made good-natured fun of the Boston accent in a scene where Sandra is invited to Melissa's family home. One of Melissa's brothers asked Sandra if she's a nahc [i.e. Narc, or undercover narcotics agent]. Sandra has no idea what he's asking! The two women go to a night club to apprehend a drug lord, and get weirder and weirder. You should see the crazy dance they do together!
On the Fourth of July I went to see "Despicable Me 2." Loved it! Let's face it, you can't get good minions any more!

We watched "Skyline" on Film 4 last night, it hadn't improved and I still didn't get the ending
Last week at the Senior Screen we saw "Snitch" which despite starring Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, was a very good film, he played the non-streetwise character brilliantly.
The week before we saw The Iceman which was uncomfortable watching but we ended up having sympathy for the character anyway!

Watched World War Z this afternoon. It was a lot more of a thriller than I was expecting and really engaging, I was expecting it to be a horror film and, whilst there were tense/scary bits, it was more about the science. And science is cool.
I like it when I'm watching a film, thinking "they should just do X/Y/Z" and they go on and do that exact thing. Makes me feel like I should shut up in my brain.
Depending on how badly the heat is getting to me tomorrow, I might go and see Pacific Rim. At least the cinemas are air-conditioned.

Ghost Rider. It wasn't entirely awful.

I haven't seen a movie or watched television since last September while I was in the hospital, lacking anything better to do.
Then it was a Marilyn Monroe marathon.
Well worth the watching.

Film documentary on the career of photographer Don McCullin, charts his war photography over the past fifty years including his reflection on the death of truth in war reporting in more recent years. I have some minor quibbles in the technical production and some minor quibbles over a few of his interpretations but overall it's a useful account of war and what it represents to the poor / people on the ground. The film documentary is called "McCullin" and is part of the Imagine, 2013 Summer series of the BBC.

I watched In The Loop again thanks to BBC2. James Gandolfini's scenes felt really poignant, but they also reminded me of why I love him so much.

Pacific Rim is great. But looks like it won't find an audience, so no Mountains of Madness of Hellboy 3.
I bloody hate people, they are stupid and they suck.

>> Pacific Rim is great. <<
It's the old portal between dimensions plot where aliens come out and start destroying US coastal towns, only for the good ole US military to come to everyone's rescue and kick alien butt. Same old same old.
It's basically a marketing ploy for selling the kick alien evil doers butt computer game to follow.

ps in the good ole days of hollywood, it used to be pesky Indians scalping the god fearing and peaceful European settlers, only for the good ole US Cavalry to come to everyone's rescue by riding in and kicking Indian butt.
