I watched The Prestige on the DVD machine a couple of days ago.
I didn't really follow it very well...I think I'll watch it again, now I know the ending, and try to see what I can spot next time round.

Ooh, I saw Transformers the other night.
Meh. That's my opinion.

I saw Bourne Ultimatum two weeks ago and I thought it was absolutely awesome. Never saw the first, but I've seen the second and I kept up with the plot. I think someone who hadn't seen the other two could enjoy it, they just wouldn't get everything.
It was just a staggeringly good film that screamed money, talent and effort. Julia Stiles was particularly good, and was a lot more than just a damsel.
Then last week I went to see Knocked Up. It was my mates week to choose the film and when he announced his choice I was quite disappointed - not usually my sort of film. I actually quite enjoyed it, it had just the right balance of comedy and character development. Surprisingly good.

Watched The Queen the other night. Helen Mirren was excellent, but everyone else was shit. I spent most of it trying to remember where I'd seen Prince Phillip before - It was the guy who first achieved warp speed in Star Trek: First Contact. Not your ensemble cast, basically. And there was a distinct camera wobble during the closing credits. It's an outrage!

"Air Guitar Nation", a documentary about a "performance art" that many would not take seriously. But these guys do. It follows two Amercians, C-Diddy and Bjorn Turoque (har) from US regionals thru the nationals to the world championship in northern Finland . Fun stuff.
As a local (Houston) reviewer said, "You think you can do this? Think again." But you can try on an Xbox 360: "In 2007, Yngwie Malmsteen was honored in the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. A player receives the 'Yngwie Malmsteen' award for hitting 1000 or more notes in succession."
Trivia: "Yngwie" is the Anglicised version of his real name, "Yngve".

Watched Hallam Foe on Wednesday. Really good - a well-done take on the stalker/peeping Tom movie with really strong performances from Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot all grown up) and Sophia Myles.
Quite dark at times but with a lot of humour and drama to keep the story moving and the audience interested. The opening titles are almost worth the admission price alone

I watched I, Robot yesterday which, even if it was not at the level of Asimov, was not as unintelligent as I thought it would be. It was a decent story and Will Smith was actually doing acting rather than just being Will Smith. It could also compete with Minority Report for "Best Use of Plexiglass In A Motion Picture"

Hallam Foe is my top pick to go see this weekend...mainly because everthing else that's on at the moment looks like crap.
Where did all the good films go? Summer blockbuster season's over, whty isn't there anything decent on?

Yesterday I watched 'This Is England'. Grim and compelling.
I just finished watching '28 Weeks Later'. Blimey, it really is excellent. Makes '28 Days Later' look like an extended episode of Casualty. If you like a bit of blood-splattered zombie action set in a wonderfully shot London then this is for you, but I did find myself getting distracted by thinking 'Ooh, I work there!' and 'Ooh, a few months back I had a Big Mac from that branch' and 'Hang on, didn't they get to the Woolwich foot tunnel a bit sharpish?' and things of that ilk.
I think I might put it on again: it's quite riveting.

Superman Returns last night. Not what I would call intelligent or riveting, but not nearly as bad as it could've been.
Rather annoyingly, it frustrated most of my attempts to shout at it when something completely impossible was about to happen (excepting of course the central theme of this indestructible bloke from another planet who can fly).
For example, superman was holding a falling Boeing 707 up by the tip of one wing, and just as I shouted "that would just snap off" at the telly, it snapped off.

Made up for not being able to get to the cinema for the last 6 weeks.

They now execute you if you don´t go to the cinema often enough? In that case I´m off to buy tickets.

"Knocked Up"
Gotta say despite my doubts I really enjoyed it. Well worth a watch.

Just got back from seeing Atonement. Really can't say much more than WOW! A truly great film - one we'll be talking about in 70 years time.

Lately I've seen Stardust (swashbuckling fun) and 3:10 to Yuma (a cool Western starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.)
