Hello
DH and I are watching a DVD a week at the mo. So far we've watched Perfume (both thought it was brilliant), National Treasure (he enjoyed it, I didn't) and The Queen (I enjoyed it, he didn't).
Worst film I've seen recently (possibly ever) has to be Spiderman 3. The children liked it but I managed to doze off and DH found himself wondering why Aunt May keeps her kitchen utensils on the left side of the stove.
I think it's the 20th anniversary of The Princess Bride this year. Shouldn't there be some sort of international celebration of this?

Pirates Of The Carribean 3: I liked it. Nearly too many twists and turns but a good rollicking romp of a movie.
But this month I have been mostly watching Hot Fuzz with the multitude of commentaries on it. Initially, I thought SOTD was better but now if I had to only watch one of them ever again it would be Hot Fuzz, there is just so much detail and little things going on in there that you only start realising after the 4th watching. And what other film has the hero drop kicking a granny?

I watched 'The Butterfly Effect' last night. On the whole I thought it was great. Sure, the whole idea of going back in time, tying to change the past for the better, then finding things don't turn out as they were meant to is hardly original. It kind of treads a line between metaphysics and teen flick. Occasionally it's truly disturbing and thought-provoking, but occasionally lapses. It's all about as implausible as you can get, but that doesn't in any way affect a film. A film about time travel can hardly be completely realistic, can it? Sometimes thinks it's cleverer than it actually is - but I would recommend at least seeing it.

I love 12 Monkeys, but I'm almost ashamed to admit I'm a sucker for the Back to the Future Trilogy. Even though the stories are totally against my conception of time travel. They're more "feel-good" movies than anything. Like a terrible 60s song you just have to sing along with.

Oh - and Butterfly Effect is strangely fascinating.

Was it better than Ocean´s 12? I didn´t think that one was much good.

oh and tonight on BBC1 at 11:15pm is "Pay It Forward" I'll stick my neck out and recommend that, sentimental as it is, it made me wish the world was really like that and also made me so don't say you haven't been warned.

I watched Die Hard 4(.0) today.
Good old-fashioned brains-out film. It's Die Hard without a doubt. Stuff the critics who seem to be slating it - they give it 1 to 3 stars. The public are giving it 4 to 5 stars. It's not high art. He ain't Jason Bourne, he's a good old fashioned cop...who seems to have major problems with lift shafts...

Heads up - The Simpsons movie is breaking all records with advance bookings, beating Pirates, Spidey & Shrek hands-down.

X-men 3.
A fraction better than I remembered it being but still unforgivably poor given the tremendous possibility of the two prequels. By the end I was left with a certain distaste for the whole affair, a sense of yawning pity for the decimated cast, and a wrinkled lip at the weak, ill-thought-out slew of macguffins competing on-screen for my attention that had resulted in a script and plot that while mildy entertaining had gradually become contradictory and ultimately so unsatisfactory that the film could not even stand to live by it's own convictions and includes two codas; one penultimate the other not, that undo much of the the last two hours.
So really what was the point?
Also Halle berry is horrible in this - take her away! ...Please.

Just got back from HP5 - it was awesome. They took the weakest book and made it into the best film. They got so many things exactly right. Especially good were the effects seen, but done wrong, in film 3 like Dementors, Patronuses and communicating through the fire.
And the final battles were outstanding.

You said everything I was going to say.
It was very dark, and is the *only* way to see the sights of London...

"Shaun of the Dead". I probably would not have heard of it except for H2G2. So thanks, well worth the rental. (We did turn on the English subtitles, being Americans and all ...)
"Kill the Queen!"
"What?"
"The music ..."

Dead Silence
not as creepy as it could have been but not bad either. I think twisted pictures were trying to be a bit more subtle than with the 'saw' movies and haven't got the balace quite right yet. Very good twist ending.
We were going to watch the messengers tonight but i've been stuck at the oncall drs all evening so it will have to be tomorrow now.

Hello there Iago
I'd say Book 5 was the most filmic of the books, especially the last few chapters - almost felt like I was reading a screenplay. Anyway, glad you liked it. I'll definitely try to watch it this weekend then.

HP5 - it's my favourite of the books so I was a bit worried.
Well, the book needed editing down (but I love it anyway) and the film handled it very well indeed. Improved one bit tremendously, in fact.
I can't wait to see it again!
