>> Is it any good then? I ask 'cos it's also appeared on Sky movies recently. <<
If you're asking about Volver, then I'd say "yes, with knobs on".

Spiderman 3 premiere is just a few days away. I can feel my spider sense tingling, anyone here seen it yet?

Nope.
Psycho. Every inch the classic I remembered it being.
Herrmann's score is so evident and wonderful - and the plot is surprisingly sophisticated and layered - although the psychologists speech at the end is a little clunky.
Loved it.

Don't start me on Hitchcock. No idea how he managed to get all those big names to act in his films. They really weren't worth it.
I'm looking forward to Spider Man 3, although I'll probably only get to see it on a bad quality downloaded version, if at all. Tobey Maguire is really great to watch. One of the most riveting films I ever remember seeing was Cider House Rules.

Just watched 'The Pick Of Destiny' which is quite amusing if you put yourself in a Bill & Ted frame of mind.
Now watching Barbarella.

Is that in black and white?

Barbarella? Nah, it boasts a really quite garish 60s palette. It's knowingly dreadful and brilliant for it.

And also contains the character Duran Duran. This leads to great hilarity as Barbarella (for it is she) runs around the place asking "has anyone seen Duran Duran?"
At least, it does in the Freddy household.

Hey...you should try the book!

I had a feeling you'd mention Duran Duran.
It also features a hilarious sex scene with Jane Fonda and David Hemmings.

Duran Duran should be mentioned at every available opportunity. As should XTC.
Hilarious? Us breeders would describe it as "hot".

Are you sure we're talking about the same sex scene? I mean, you breeders are a bit odd, but really...

Oh, you mean the "hilarious" sex scene, not the "this is as near to the knuckle as we can make it in the 60s" sex scene, don't you?

Fortunately it just finished as I read your last post. Much talk of 'those pills' and Duran Duran, and remarkable hair stylings.

reddyfreddy i loved volver too.. b ut i was confused about the part of her friend [can't remember the name ] but i was convinced there was going to be a big surprise and she would suddenly announce that all along she was a he... that woman looked like kevin spaceys twin....in a flowery skirt...
apparently that actress is well acclaimed but she sure looked like a guy to me

Looking forward to Volver now.
Watched The Core last night. Made me wonder why Sci-Fi can be called that when it ignores the "sci" part entirely. Now I'm happy to accept a few liberties when needed to make a story work, especially if they're cutting edge science or future technlogies, but this film just fabricated everything; didn't even bother to stay faithful to the basic stuff.
Even my 6-year old expressed confusion about the way the film interchanged electricity and magnetism with wild abandon.
Utter s***e.

Well it looks like the movie Sunshine is the same sort of thing as The Core, but set in space.

Went to a matinee showing of "Grindhouse" yesterday afternoon. Can't remember the last time I saw a double feature in an actual theater- not since I was a kid. It's also been a long time since I had that much fun watching a three-hour movie. It's been a long time since I had that much fun at a major cineplex, for that matter.
The first feature, "Planet Terror" is a kick-ass zombie flick. Absolutely over the top in every way. The second feature, "Death Proof" resembled some of the cool old Pam Grier tough chicks films, and had a killer car chase. The fake movie trailers were hilarious, and they even used the old rainbow-swirly and black cat intro bits that they used in the old grindhouse theaters and that you now see in many of the DVD releases. Both films managed the look and feel of old exploitation films- including such gags as the occasional "missing reel", and the look of poor-quality film stock.
Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the old exploitation films and low budget action flicks.
We absolutely loved it. Two thumbs up!!

Finally got round to seeing Flushed Away at the weekend.
Dunno why I'd been avoiding it - scared it would be full of poo jokes I s'pose...
But it was great - the singing slugs deserve their own series

Be's all There's a horrible rumour going round that because 'Grindhouse' has been so poorly received in the States (audiences failing to realise it was a double bill and walking out half way through, failing to get the joke and just failing to turn up at all) that it's going styraight to dvd over here in the UK.
And I've been looking forward to it for ages.

That'd be a shame if it went right to DVD, because this is definitely one case where I think you need a big screen viewing to get the "full effect", if you know what I mean? The only thing missing was the sticky floor...
To be honest, though, I can see why the "average" audience wouldn't "get" the joke. Or fail to turn out at all.
You're one of the people I thought of when I mnetioned it, Blues.
