Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

'Parents' would be a good guess - if memory serves it's a small independant Canadian production directed by Bob Balaban (best remembered as the translator in 'Close Encounters').

Anybody wanting a similarly black film is recommended to watch 'The Young Poisoners Handbook' which is airing on Channel 4 (I think), on Friday.

'Ravenous' is a fantastic film which particularly appealed to my love of weird westerns, but also has a knockout cast - Robert Carlyle and Guy Pearce as the main protagonists. It's also losely based on a real life incident, the infamous fate of the Donner Party. There's a an edited entry about it here;

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

Having had a quick scootch on IMDB I think the film is definitely 'Parents' a quote in one the reviews states;

Michael: "Well, what were they before they were leftovers?"

Dad: "Leftovers to be."

Yup, that's it. I remember seeing the film for the first time and thiking "That's one way of avoiding the question" at that line.

Ooh, it's been a few years since I've seen "Parents". Sadly, the DVD has been out of print for a while (though I thought Lion's Gate was going to re-release it), but I have an old VHS copy packed up in a carton at home!

"Flushed Away", another funny animation from Aardman, this time using computer generated 3D. Good voice acting, especially Gandalf, uhhh, Ian McKellen as the bad guy. smiley - monster

RF: eBay.

I watched "Dante's Peak" last night on ITV2. smiley - erm OK I get that they were trying to escape an erupting volcano. I get that they found an unlocked car which there were no keys for. But, having ran through volcanic ash-snow, when the Pierce Brosnan-character yanked open the car door and ripped open the dashboard to hot-wire it, how was he clean? Even his hair was its usual black! And when the Linda Hamilton character and her kids climbed in, ditto? Even my son mentioned they should have been very dirty, with white eyes. Dunno why this bothered me so much. But I hope the continuity editor on the film got his pay docked.

Don´t forgot when they are found after three days in a cave, and Hamilton´s hair still looks perfect. smiley - winkeye

SPOILER FOR NIGHT LISTENER...

i rented out THE NIGHT LISTENER with robin williams and toni colette... its hailed as the new sixth sense but i wouldn't say that.. its intriguing and well acted [ of course] but i was most disappointed with the ending.. if you're looking for that WOW factor from the sixth sense.. well i don't feel it was there at all.. in fact the ending is quite evident from early on...

its not rubbish, its clever and based on true events [ish] i ws just hoping for more....

You can call me TC

Was there a Wow factor in Sixth Sense? I thought it was obvious he was dead when he got shot and the camera shot from the ceiling showed him lying on the bed with a damn great hole in his chest.

Sixth Sense had more signposts than the average motorway.

Last film I watched was Dead Even which suddenly became less interesting about 45 minutes in. And I now have nightmares about Liz Hurley.

I *got* "The Sixth Sense" just from the trailers and all the hype about "the twist you just dont see coming". So I never bothered to watch it. Basic comic book rules apply "if you dont see people in the same room or doing the same things then that's your supehero or supernatural character. Its why "Fight Club" was so obvious no one ever spoke to both tyler and the other one at the same time.

I watched Zoolander and Team America again lots of childish humour. Great.

"Startup.Com", a cinema verite style documentary about the rise and fall (in short order) of a Silicon Valley Internet Company during the dot-com bubble and burst. Two childhood friends join up just after college to make their fortune using venture capital. The product is an Internet site for cities to allow online payment of traffic tickets. They have some early success, including a contract with the city of New York, a dinner with President Clinton, media attention, etc., but ...

I have trouble with this type of film, always wondering if they would have acted the same way if the filmmaker were not filming. I'm pretty sure I would act differently. I tend to agree with the reviewer from the New Yorker, at least the second part of this:

"The movie's account of their dealings with one another is painfully funny and very intimate, perhaps too much so: it would have been useful to have more detail about how the business actually worked and why it went wrong."

The Inside Man. Clive Owen bank robbery heist-type thing on Sky movies at the moment ... actually very good I thought. Fairly gripping, lots of nice twists and an ending that was ... well ... surprisingly and pleasantly satisfying though obviously I can't say why.
