why do i smell paint everywhere i go?
Cloviscat Posted Sep 3, 2003
Phantom smells: mine can be one of a whole range of things: engine oil, ozone, vanilla, and - does anyone know what I mean by the smell of meccano? Even if it's a 'nice' smell in theory, it becomes unpleasant because of the pervading nature and the associations. None of these are 'real' smells: no-one else can smell them, but my reaction to real smells is affected too.
I rarely finish a botte of perfume, because if I've had one or two bad migraines while wearing it, I can't use it again for years.

There is much we do not understand about molecular aromatics. For those who at least appreciate the power of pheremones let me suggest that a single molecule of the paint vapor trapped up the nose can leave a residual aroma for hours. To that end always try blowing your nose before leaping to any other conclusions.
Also, there is a theory that memory is stored as single molecule aromas in the lymphic system throughout the body. That's why we scratch when we're trying to remember something or when spectral forces try to give us warning of future events. Touch and smell are as closely related as taste and smell.
Oh yes! Taste and smell can be miles apart. Take alcohol for example.
Consumed it is an intoxicating and debilitating depressant. But the anticpatory aromas offer a most pleasant stimulation. This allure keeps drawing people back again and again even though they don't like the taste or being intoxicated. Smelling the cork is often enough for some.

If you have sinus trouble and the HNO finds you're bunged up again, he might flush you out. That is the most horrible experience (and believe me, I've been through lots of medical atrocities)
If that is the case, you're lucky it's paint you think you're smelling. The real thing is significantly less pleasant. When I was flushed out, even the doc commented on how terrible the smell was. And I'd been living with that inside me for over a week.
This stuff which clogged up my sinuses I could taste, smell, feel, hear - thank God I couldn't see it!
So perhaps it'll turn out to be mucus which will get infested and smell worse as time goes by.
Much better to be pregnant, which is why I came to this thread in the first place - it was the first thing I thought of, but Lucky Star had already suggested that!

flushing sinuses, syringing ears, colonic irrigation, stomach pump
us hoomans have come up with some pretty gross ways of getting "stuff" out of us haven't we!
I too thought you might have been HRH (grass is always green because it has been spraypainted that way), but if you were you would have put "one can always smell paint"
My phantom smells are mainly sausages, strawberries or watermelon! I often smell chlorine too but that may be because we live downwind of a swimming pool!

I've been told it's always better to live next door to a sewage farm than a biscuit factory. You get used to the smell of sewage but the smell of biscuits is always there to taunt you.

Have you been to the doctor yet infinity?
If you think you're pregnant on top of all the other complaints you've been experiencing in the last day you'll be there a long time.

I thought you meant that red carpets and disfunctional families were symptoms of migraines. Is anyone doing research on this?
Probably a team at BRI, that well-known centre of excellence.

Has anyone else got as many flies on their walls as me - I've never seen so many - must be about 2 dozen on each window and then they're flying all round the kitchen, too.
Perhaps they're all people who have said "I would like to be a fly on the wall in TC's kitchen".
Are they attracted by smells?
