Actually, squatting has been the preferred method in most cultures throughout the majority of our history. One of the quirks that demonstrates that humans are social creatures is the fact that females *need* attendants at her birth and shortly thereafter. But anyway, squatting - the hospital beds where I gave birth actually came and part and back together in such a way that a women could give birth that way if she so desires. I preferred to lie on my lower vertebrae and lean forward. Come to think of it, I was such an excellent pusher, it's too bad I can't find a paying job doing the same...LOL...It's not a much used skill (though the necessary strong muscles are useful erm..in other activities )

For any woman (or man as the case may soon be ) intending to give birth, i have one word of advice - Epidural. *worships her anaesthesiologist*
