There was that joke: what's the difference between a straight man and a gay man? Three pints of beer and an offer. Boom, boom.

There is nothing wrong with a woman with a bit of a bum on her. The female form was created curvy for a reason, why should anyone try to repress that?
The question "Does this make my bum look big?" isn't that bad. Just answer, "Yeah, but that's just the way I like it." Then, just a quick trip to casualty later, everything's fine again.

About the stick insects, that is exactly the point. It is women that tell other women they are too fat or whatever. Yet it is the men that are accused of causing it, if somebody ends up with anorexia.

i think with a lot of women they would be much happier if whatever shape they were didnt wobble and didnt have funny veins and celulite. however thin you are skin still looks like orange peel road maps. i think people believe that if they loose weight their skim will be beautiful. not true. it's just that there is a bit less of it

Really skinny women just looks sick, I mean you don't have hips, breasts or any kind of curvy figure that looks attractive.
The media has created this warped image of reality and makes us women think that you have to be the size of a twig for men to find you attractive, and the worst bit is up to a certain age guys go along with it and only the size 8 girls seem to get dates.
Okay, question.
Renee Zellweger, Bridget Jones or post Bridget?

I think breasts are regarded as sexual because men don't have them, aren't they? I don't buy into all that cultural stuff ... for example, many people say that as the Japanese have no word for romantic love, they have no concept of romantic love. But we have no word for Schadenfreude. I think people are pretty much the same all over.
But the whole body-image problem is a great big mess. For example, a lot of women seem to be unnecessarily rude about other, obviously beautiful women. But this is totally weird. Sometimes the beautiful women aren't nice, and sometimes they are, just like everyone else. It's like hating a book for having a nice cover. Why not just chill, have a white russian, and take it easy, man? Life is too short to hate people for having things we don't, and in any case, most women are more beautiful than they give themselves credit for -- and the best way to be beautiful is to be kind.

Fact is though a lot of women would see an obviously beautiful women let their jaws drop to the floor and think "god I wish I looked like that"
And as for the guy factor, when you find a guy who falls in love with you he'll think you're attractive no matter how big your bum is...he may even like you more for the size of it.

Well, that's exactly true.
I think she looked better not as Bridget Jones because that isn't her designed shape. Everyone has a way they are supposed to look, and big women who have bone structures and everything that match that can look very sexy. What looks weird is a woman who has an oversupply or undersupply of fat for her skeleton size and muscle structure, which is to say, an unhealthy woman. And you wouldn't want to be unhealthy anyway, right?

And the whole twig thing, I don't know ... a lot of early development is conditioned by peer pressure anyway, and to be honest, nobody used to go out with me because I was gawky, which isn't much better.

I think she looked better somewhere between pre Bridget Jones and Bridget JOnes...
the crash diet was not healthy and it showed.

I didn't see that. I was thinking of how she looked before. Geri Halliwell looks weird now. Still, hey. TBH I think saying "X looks weird" may be the reason why people do stupid things to their bodies -- making themselves look weird ... perhaps saying she did a stupid thing to her body is a better thing to say.

Yeah, Halliwell looked much better before she got that whole liposuction thing. Have you seen her in that Raining Men video? There is just something slightly inhuman about her in that one.

Her "Me, Myself and Irene" figure wasn't too bad. Was that before or after Bridget? I dunno.. I only saw Bridget Jones' Diary once, and I haev to say that I didn't really notice her figure very much.
Andrew, have you ever heard an expression that goes something in the line of "Schadenfreude is the only true type of joy."? Just thought about that for no reason.
Anyway, now i forgot what I was going to say.

I don't know. But here's what. I've never seen an article about her of the society / fashion / gossip style which doesn't say "doesn't she look great! She's so thin! So if you have a sucky break-up, crash-dieting your way to gorgeousness is the answer, girls." or words to that effect, all written by women, all F**KED, man! I can't believe that.
And, admittedly, those articles I did see were all on someone else's newspaper on a train, so my sample is not large, but at least it's random.

Schadenfreude -- I think that sounds like a Nietzsche kind of thing to say ... that and "every other philisopher's head is filled with steaming pants" and "I am a destiny". What a weirdo.
And he obviously didn't ever eat smoked salmon.

Speaking of doing weird things with your body, I saw this tv show the other night about a guy that had tried to turn himself into looking like a cat. He'd cleft his upper lip, flattened and broadened his nose (opposite of Michael Jackson) and gotten silicone imjections in his lip and forehead to get a more cat-like look. He'd also gotten sharp fangs implanted in his mouth, and whiskers that were pierced through his lip. Oh, and he'd pointed his eras as well, to make them look more cat-like as well.
Geri Halliwel looks, in my opinion, like a walking skeleton.

I think she looks like a non-shiny C3P0, but I also think that I'd rather shut up about how weird people look because this is what I am trying to say is a bad thing. Her extreme crash-dieting is odd, and I think that's the important focus.
