'Expecting Someone Taller' by Tom Holt having just my way through 'Who's Afraid of Beowulf?'
I thought the Mary Stewart trilogy was very good.

I've finished Two Towers (in just over a month!) and am planning on starting Salmon of Doubt this evening on my flight. I know it won't take me long enough to read... being his last book I'd like for it to last (which partially explains why it's taken me this long to even buy it)

"Expecting Someone Taller" is a fantastic book. Well done.
I'm currently reading "Polgara the Sorceress" by David and Leigh Eddings, having just finished "Belgarath the Sorceror". These have to be the two best books of the entire Belgariad/Malloreon series - not that the other ten are bad, I hasten to add!
I can't wait for their new book to come out in paperback so I can justify buying it... it will be very interesting to see how they handle writing in a setting based on our own world.

I loved Who's Afraid of Beowulf. I've just finished Snow White and the Seven Samurai and having a hard time reading any sort of story to my kids now.

I've not read that one - is it another Tom Holt?
I rather enjoyed "My Hero" and the one with the sun pilots in it - was that the same one, or was that "Djinn Rummy"? I can't remember... must try to read them again!

Yep, Tom Holt (I borrowed a whole pile of his stuff from my mum, and I'm reading them back to back, with other stuff at the same time)#
The sun pilots, was that ... flip, forgotten it. That was great. I have My Hero open with a book mark in it, but I started the Janet Evanovich books right after that and dropped it. I'll have to start again.

I just love Tom Holt's writing... it's excellent how he takes popular mythology and turns it into something that fits it but is at the same time completely ridiculous.

I've only just been recomended his books by a friend and am wishing I had heard of them before. At least there is a good supply of them where I'm now living.

Heavy, Swoosh!
At the moment, I am reading 'Lightning' by Dean Koontz, which was recommended on a thread here as a good time travel story. But I can't get around his RW politics and libertarian-style assertions! This is not the Dean Koontz I knew and loved!
At bedtime, Feral Sorcery .. er, Wild Magic, by Tamora Pearce. Head and shoulders above the Song of the Lioness series! Really quite good!

Have read most of Tom Holt's stuff....just the right level of silliness... But the Flying Duchman is still my favorite.
The Crytal Cave - Mary Stewart was and is one of my favorite reads...but the other two never managed to get my interest I'm afraid.
Am currently reading The Frogs of War by Andrew Harman and Black Woman Walking by Maureen Stone (my cousin...it's a duty read, and kinda interesting to see what she is actually like and what my family is actually like from her perspective.....)

I just finished The Catcher in the Rye. I had my English high school final exam yesterday so I read it for brushing up. It was really good, wonderfully perceptive a lot more radical than what I expected. Now I'm going to read heaps of books that I haven't had time for with all this studying.
I started with Graham Greene's The End of the Affair, and I have Brink and Steinbeck among athers waiting. Ha, the freedom!

I'm off for a week's holiday on Monday. Having failed to pack enough books in the past, I've gone overboard this time. The list is: 'Where the Evil Dwells', 'All Flesh is Grass', 'Why Call Them Back From Heaven' - all by Clifford D. Simak (these have been sitting on my shelves, unread, for a *very* long time); 'Sarum' by Edward Rutherford; 'Marie Antoinette' by Antonia Fraser.
The last two books are pretty thick and hefty. I probably won't get through all of them, but I'll let you know how I get on.

Re-reading "Daughter of Fortune" by Isabel Allende, Italian translation. Still skint, so cannot buy any new books. Working on my film script. That's coming up rather well.
