hey
i play the violin though not that well but i have been playing for 10 years.i dont really have a favourite band / composer / genre. im a jack of all trades as they say. i listening to a lot of pop music from all eras, as well as a lot of dance music. i like rnb too as well as a bit of classical and jazz.
as well as the violin (which is the ony instrument ive had lessons in) i play the tin whistle, the keyboard and the recorder.
there isnt anything particular i want from the musicians guild just a chance to talk to other musicians. im at uni now and not studying music means i dont see any musicians and miss the conversation.
i sing badly if that counts! i used to be in choir during my GCSEs which was forced due to the fact i was doing music though i did enjoy it but was never very good. i hope this allows me to join.

Well, I'm afraid I don't play sax and I'm not really a jazz fan...
The best thing to do would be to post a message at <./>AskH2G2</.> Most people hang around there, including a lot of Guild members, so with a bit of luck you'll get some useful tips

Hi there
I'd like to join, too. I play percussion (bongos, mainly) and I can sing (and whistle, a neglected art form ). I'm also a radio DJ with over 20 years of experience, and a reviewer.
Favorite composers / genre: Well, I could go on and on here. I'll try and restrain myself. Artists: Frank Zappa, Sun Ra, Fela Kuti, George Clinton, August Darnell, 24-7 Spyz, Art Blakey, Johnny Otis, Thelonious Monk, Lee Scratch Perry, Bèla Bartok, the Meters, Steve Coleman, Amon Tobin, the Coasters and many, many more.
Genres: Funk, jazz, doo-wop, afrobeat, latin, etc. Anything that's surprising and/or enthusing, with loads of spontaneity and rough edges.
What would I like from the MG? A place to talk and write about music with knowlegdgeable and spirited people, mainly. Anything more is a bonus within a bonus.
Yours
Nite Owl

Hi there Danny
Just found the guild from your article (I was the one who made some comments about Les Paul etc.), way cool.
I mainly play guitar, I also play double bass and I am in a band called The Small Town Giants. We play 1950's rockabilly and rock n roll you can find out more about my music at http://www.rockabillyhaven.com
I have too many favorites to list but maybe in time I will write an article about the birth and roots of rock n roll/rockabilly, I've been thinking about this for some tine what do yur think?

Hello to Nite Owl
Your mention of Bartok reminds me that there was a collaborative Entry set up a while ago to write and Entry about him. I wonder what happened to it...
And hello to Mark - glad you made it here
An Entry on the origins of rock and roll would be fantastic, and would site nicely alongside the series we already have on the origins of the blues (A1095248)
Anyway, welcome to the Guild, both of you - you'll find our membership badge at A434648
Have fun!

Hello!
Skankyrich U931109 would like to join!
1. Plays guitar badly and avoids singing.
2. Badly Drawn Boy, Elliott Smith, Midnight Oil, stuff along those lines.
3. Musical companionship and a shiny badge.
And I have a very good idea for an entry if you can tell me where the suggestion should go....

Hello Skankyrich,
Welcome to the Musicians' Guild! You'll find the badge at A434648. Re: suggestion - You could make the suggestion here (as in, at the Musicians' Guild) and let somebody pick it up (I'm assuming it's music-related ), or I suppose you could always head over to 'Challenge H2G2' (A1293365) and post it there.
Cheers,
Farlander.
PS: Since I'm logged on here - Danny, there's only one-third of Bartok the Bat left, I'm afraid; I've not heard from Jen and Arwen for *months*. Perhaps somebody would like to collaborate to get this project done once and for all?

@Elfrida: That would be great! Maybe you could head over to U220320 and have a look at how much material has been collected, and we could talk about shaping the article afterwards?

Well, I'm a decent electric bassist.
Also a vocalist, but not a very versatile one.
Big fan of:
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Flogging Molly
Muse
I love psychadelic rock, and pretty much all other forms of rock. Nu-Metal and punk are also winners.
I would really enjoy the opportunity to be organized into bands consisting of the rest of the h2g2 musicians and have us all go on a hitchhiking tour of Europe playing as a tribute to life, the universe, and just about everything else.
I know some american church groups do this w/o the hitchhiking because hitchhiking in america is downright suicidal. But they do organize musicians from all over the world and have them go on tour.
Key: Complain about this post
