Missed Jade again, sigh!

Wouldn't dream of it, my dear!

*Sweeps Jade around the dance floor, pretending he knows what he is doing. Is grateful when Jade leads for a while. Calls over to Mac:*
Word files would be great!
And d'E, you can't cut-and-paste from .pdf files if you only have Acrobat reader, not the full package (which you have to pay for ). I tried all sorts of things with the MC .pdf file and finally had use the scanner. If you know of a way, I'd love to hear it, so I could smack my forehead and say d'oh.
The idea for putting potential actions in the private thread is a great one, d'E. I think we should do that in the next game.

Unfortunately, GL, I don't know of a way to copy from a .pdf file either. No worries of from this quadrant.

Just click the "Text Selection" tool (the "T" with the dotted-box next to it). Maybe you have to view the PDF in Acrobat Reader directly, rather than the web browser plug-in? It's definitely in the reader. Look, this is out of PDF I downloaded the other night:
Pumpkin Pie using fresh garden pumpkins. Best served
barely warm, with freshly whipped cream on top of each
serving. Use the remaining pumpkin puree in any recipe
that calls for canned pumpkin.
Alas, it did not say "Do not burn the pie."

Welcome! Get yourself a drink, have some
munchies! Relax and enjoy! We're all friends
here!
Once a month, for the last four years, noted
psychic Dorotea Schreckenghast has been having a
few friends over to her secluded beach house,
north of San Francisco. The New Age Society is
an informal gathering of the fairly wealthy and the
mostly bored, all with a common interest in "the
unexplained." While most of the conversation
involves psychic phenomena the whole thing is
mainly just a good excuse for a party. However,
Well, I know I played with that select text thing when I was getting the MC going, but somehow didn't get it to work. Maybe I had an older version of the reader then. Anyways, it works now, so I don't need those Word files, Mac.

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Nov 22, 2001
Hello everybody. Sorry I disappeared, but obviously that didn't affect the game very much. You all had a great time and the success of it can be judged by the clamour for another one. I'd just like to add my $0.02 in praise of the brilliance of Mac's work and his dedication to the cause. And thanks to GL for inviting me to play. It was sadly as time went on that I realised I wasn't equal to it, either in imagination or ability to spend enough time online.
I came back from holiday and realised that putting some distance between me and h2g2 made me see that I'd been spending way too much time on it for anything I was getting back from it. Despite having posted almost every day for two and a half years, I still felt like an outsider on most forums, and so I decided to take a break for a while. No blame or criticism attached to anyone - I think I just found I couldn't keep up with the general pace of things however much I tried to be online, and sometimes you just have to accept that people might not be interested in you. Dropping out for a while and coming back to find nothing new on my home page kinda said it all for me. However, I shouldn't have deserted the MC without saying anything and I owe you guys an apology for that.
I hope my comments on the game are still valued, even though I stopped participating about a month ago.
I felt a bit like Lil that there were things happening all over the ship that I didn't and couldn't know about. I seemed to have a limited run of places I could legitimately be, and I would have had to neglect my cooking duties, which I felt I should take seriously, to sit on deck and watch the action, for example. Perhaps I didn't exploit my character to the full - I don't know.
I also felt (and this is reinforced by reading this thread) that there is a whole lot more to LARP than I know about, and that it needs a lot more participation than I'm able to give. I enjoyed the game at the beginning, but it quickly became apparent that I couldn't keep up with events like those of you who are online several hours a day. This is a shame. It would be nice to have a game that wasn't linear and was less result-focused for people who can't spend a lot of time on it, but that would be very different from the MC and probably not very popular!
And lastly, I felt it went on too long. Partly this was because I didn't see the fun the rest of you were having, and I'm not sure how that's resolved online. In real life, you would hear raised voices, laughter, objects falling; you would smell things and feel movement. People's actions would have immediate consequences that would alert you to them, and you'd go and investigate. If you're in another room in VR, it's hard to make that work, but it seems I'm the only one who had a problem with it so what the hey...
Anyway that's my take on things. I'm glad it was such a roaring success, and I hope the next one goes well. I'd really appreciate it if someone could let me know where it starts so that I can be in the audience this time.
Please enjoy the party. I'll just sit in this corner with a bottle of sipping whisky and watch. Oh, almost forgot - black pudding, anyone? I managed to save some

Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!
Spiny! Good to see you again. I understand entirely - as I'm sure we all do. Glad to see you again, though.
As d'E and Zeppo seem to have run off leaving me without a dance partner, would you care for a spin around the floor, Spiny?
