Oddly appropriate that (Siberia). I was just going to actually look into that date when I recalled the event.

My computer science professor used to say the exact same thing.

He used to say that about unexpected results, not about Siberia. I had to look that up

Unpredictable results in classical logic:

Assume p implies q. (modus ponens)
If not p, then anything goes.

Now in Computer science, when I was learning assembly, there was a computer statement for initialising memory which I took as a mantra that year. It says:
ASSUME NOTHING

Its oddly appropriate when one is dealing with computers...

In FORTRAN, the statement is:

IMPLICIT NONE

which is the higher-language way of saying the same thing. smiley - biggrin

I was thrilled with the game. I am trying to keep up with it now but have been a bit busy at work. Anyone figured how to get a ghost all the way to normandy yet?

Well, since spirits don't die, Goodschad just has to wait to get to the right time. Getting to Normandy is a matter for creativity (see the Astral Plane thread for d'E's creativity) You could also have reincarated into a soldier's body, but probably only if Volkert did too. Maybe you two could be in the first wave onto the beach smiley - biggrin

As for the next game, Mac, I was thinking of your Marin County one. It will take me a while to set it up, though. Do you have the documentation in a form other than .pdf, Mac? With a .pdf file (like I used for the MC), I have to print it, then scan each page twice (once for each column of text), then edit and clean up the result. Finally, I cut-and-paste them onto h2g2. If you had them in a form that I could directly cut-and-paste from (e.g. word processor files, or text files), that would speed things up a lot.

I don't care what we play next, as long as we play! smiley - biggrin I had such fun with the MC that I can't imagine anything else from Mac's mind would be any less entertaining. smiley - bigeyes

Yeah, I think it would be in line with Volkert's character to come back as a soldier, with Goodschad trailing along. But would Volkert still be a vampire?

GL, you should be able to copy and paste from the Acrobat file, unless it was scanned in to begin with. Even then, if you have a copy of Acrobat 5 you can use its built in OCR feature to convert the image to selectable text. Just today I read that Acrobat 5 can save as RTF documents that can be opened in any word processor. Or the document might be secured against doing any of that. smiley - sadface

I almost forgot -- what do you think about using the private threads to keep action going a little when people are off line? For instance, there was a point in the cargo hold where I posted two possible courses for McLellan to take depending on whether Yclept's spell worked or not (taking the soulstone up on deck or dropping it under a cask). If someone knows that they may not get back during a critical time, they could post in their private thread several possible actions to be taken depending on what other characters might do, and it would have to be specific. The GM could then fill in the right action at the appropriate time. There are obvious limits, but it might continue the action for another turn or two. The actions would have to be in the private thread, because you wouldn't want the other players to know how you would respond to their possible actions. It would also mean trusting the GM to judge if those actions should actually be used or not.
