Well, I am at work today getting some overtime in for a major security advisory that the Borg sent out last week. It did not initially effect me personally, but I am coming in on my day off to help out with a ton of upgrade cases. Hey, it's good money.

That was a co-incidence, WM. I have spent more time than I care to add up stuck at airports; Copenhagen mainly, but LHR too. It scares me that I know so much about what is where, there. And like Caer's H, I know most of the rat-runs and back-roads around the airport too.
What really inspired me was Z's piece about Birmingham New Street. I thought 'I could do that about Heathrow'. Though of course, Heathrow is a much nastier place to be stranded.
My ex was once stranded overnight by Air Chance. He was on a through trip from Cleremont Ferrand to London via Charles de Gaulle, and they cancelled the London flight.
Air France gave them a taxi ride into Paris, a hotel voucher and a goodie bag, which contained (item) 1 (one) T-shirt, (item) 1 (one) toothbrush, (item) 1 (one) toothpaste, and (item) 1 (one) condom. Trust the French!
We used it the last time we made love.

Nice car Caerwynn! I'm jealous. I've been thinking a lot about getting a convertible but it will probably be a lot longer before it's a reality. By then all the models will probably be different anyway.
Enjoy!

I've never inspired anyone before in fact I would have considered this to be more of the duller pieces I've entered into Peer Review, and certainly one of those pieces with the least personal significance, or personal reseach, yet it's got a lot more responses in the conversation thread.
I can say many things about my Dad but he was, and still is a natural at entertaining small children very very cheaply, one of his technicuqes when we lived in the south of england was to take us to Gatwick airport to watch the plans take off. I used to find it all very glamours and exciting, that is until I starting going on planes myself on a regular basis and it stopped being exciting and started merely being dull.
Acutally I remember how my Grandma used to make a trip to Birmingham seem very exciting, and we'd only ever go to New Street station (which seemed very cosompolitan to me, hey it's under a shopping centre) and go to the museum to see the mummy.
Why is it obvious i wasn't brought up in a city?

Being that my employer is an outsourcer for the company, I cannot say that I directly work for the networking company that my work mail address indicates. I am intentionally unclear in this forum due to the fact that this *IS* a public site and it is possible that anything that I say or do could be traced back to me. The Borg make networking gear in general. They are based in San Jose and are the producers of teh PIX firewall. They commonly purchase smaller companies to gain their technology, hence The Borg. They assimilate everything they can
That is about as specific as I can get.

I am trying not to get too excited about the car, but I am glad it is getting the It has to be shipped from Italy and as they are currently trying to clear the debris from the last car carrier to sink in the Channel, I won't feel it really is on the way until the dealership phones to say it has arrived in the UK.
Z, we used to get taken to see aircraft too. Dad started his degree in Aeronautical Engineering just as WWII was looming, so he never finished it but his love of aircraft remand, and I inherited it to a lesser degree. We used to go to LHR and stand on the top of the Queen's Building. When the sons were a lot younger I took them up there to see Concorde take off and land. When I phoned BA to get the arrival departure times, the woman on the phone was so helpful and friendly, advising me where to park, the best time to arrive even where the next loos where etc. To celebrate H's 40th a few years ago, I used my savings to take us on the 30th Annivesary of Concorde's innaugral flight. It was a wonderful day and we are both so glad we took the opportunity then. I know exactly where the blame lies for the withdrawal of Concorde and it isn't with BA.

How wise you were to do it then, Caer. I don't regret much in this life, but not going on Concorde is one of the few things I do regret.

Well I think I've got part 2 of securing the job done OK. Now to post the pile of forms I've had to sign back to MMU. Seems like I've filled more in just now than when I completed the initial application form!

Courtesy, you mean you're supposed to earn money when you go to work?
What a concept! It's clear to see you don't work in a libray.
Our job satisfaction makes up for our low salaries. It's such a joy working with the public and knowing that we are performing a necessary civic function.
I was teling my directors group yesterday about the woman who wanted to check out a bunny-shaped cake pan. It turns out that there is actually a library in Missouri that has the entire line of Wilton cake pans and they do check them out. So apparently the request wasn't as unusual as I thought. Said library contacted the Wilton folks and said she'd like to check out cake pans, so Wilton sent her the entire line. This particular director doesn't live close enough to be part of our group, so I wasn't able to ask her if she also checks out crock pots and electric skillets.

That certainly brings the mission of a library in a whole new direction.
Beautiful car, Caer. When do we get a ride? And I say name it.

Hmmm, well I've had a Bluebottle which was a Renault 5 that buzzed about quite happily, and a Bluebell which was a Ford Fiesta, I'll have to think of another Blue...something or another.
