You mean people really do put knotted hankies on their heads? What a hoot. I thought it was a Monty Python joke. Why? Is it because they don't have a hat?
Z your life is too complicated for me. I could never cope.

My Dad used to resort to the knotted hanky, unitl my mother told him he looked ridiculous, so he bought a Panama.
Fortunately it does seem to be seen less often, I didn't see one on Brighton beach the other Saturday.
The rolled trousers is far enough as the English Channel is in' freezing even in high summer!

Thanks H, I'm rather hoping the rest of my life will be nice and dull, I'm sick of being interesting.

hi, everyone ! Just getting back from a hard day at work. Am a little loopy since i worked the early shift (7 AM to 3PM). Early shifts are really difficult for me because I have worked the other shifts for so long that those are my usual sleep times. I didn't even go to bed last night, so i have been up about 23 hours already. Will attempt to frantically clean in anticipation of MR's arrival

i apologise in advance for anytypos -- working with laptop is pure archy and mehitabel.
Not Fort Sumter, Fort Sumner. Was established in mid-1800's as a place for supervising collected Apaches after treaties. Then Apaches went back to Mescalero homelands. Army sold the fort grounds to Lucien Maxwell and it became a sort of hispanic settlement. Billy the Kid's girlfriend was Paulita Maxwell and that's why he ran to Ft Sumner after he escaped from Lincoln Courthouse. They are both buried in the cemetery there.
Titania is right, baile is Spanish for dance; bailes were held regularly, as often as they could get musicians to play.

Welcome to all new people, and you lurkers who've finally revealed yourselves.
Hypatia, very pleased to hear Frank's getting better.
Great to hear you got the job, Phil. Now if only I could find one...
Finished Jasper Fforde's ?The Well of Lost Plots? a little while ago. Great book, definitely up to his usual standard. Got to wait a whole year for the next one, though.
Being self-employed (well, sort of), I take a rather different approach to customer service. I can't stand the ?customer is always right? idea because some people are just plain stupid. I deal with customers fairly: obviously, I'm polite and such to begin with, but if they annoy me I treat them exactly how they deserve to be treated.
OK, that made me sound evil. I'm customer support manager for my hosting company. Scary? I leave it to you to decide.

H'mm... Does anyone else see question marks instead of quotation marks in my post? I guess Opera doesn't support Unicode. Or maybe Windoze isn't actually using Unicode properly. Daft.

I've just finished my lasted attempt at contributing to the Guide, "Thing to Do in Birmingham When the Rail Networks Dead" should anyone be interesting, (which frankly most of you won't, I expect you're all hoping you'll never be that unfortunate!) the Peer Review thread can be found here F48874?thread=298024

Good News/ Bad News:
MR has arrived safely (good news). The house is still a sty (bad news). Just thought I'd spread the word....

Managed to keep Cassie in last night by shutting all doors and windows through which the little madam could make her escape. I wouldn't mind her staying out all night if there weren't so many other out all night, mangy foxes, loud fireworks at daft times and she remembered to use her flap to get in instead of meeuuuwing loudly under the bedroom window at 4.00am.

*returns from the gym and collapses in her chair*
That documentary on elephants last night was brilliant! There were remote controlled cameras disguised as a pile of dung (dungcam), a single dropping (elephant sized though, plopcam) and another floating one.
The elephants became quite interested in the cameras and gave them a gentle kick from time to time. So would I if poo started following me around!
