Hello my dear
We are thinking of having a Surrey/Kent mini-meet - something of a girls' night out, perhaps.

It would be good to see you - if we can manage to agree a date and time.
Take care

At the wedding of one of my sisters I had to stand in for my dad who was nowhere to be found when the DJ having got the bride and groom up called for the bride and grooms parents.
Had a lovely couple of days not doing much. Spent time in the garden, harvested the garlic, planted out some lettuce and beetroot. Had a couple of bbqs. All in all a lovely relaxing weekend.
Lil the artist thing doesn't sound good from the galery owner. Hope your stuff impressed the buyers who were there though.

Thanks guys. I hate cocktail parties anyway. But I've sold two unframed matted prints.
I took my camera and took a couple dozen photos, and I'm going to turn them into a juried art show for you salonistas. You will be the jury. You'll find the pictures identified only by number, and your mission will be to submit your decision, the top five (in order) as if we were giving prizes. I will not ask for a worst five, but you will be welcome to add critical comment, good or bad, on works that didn't make it into your ranking.
I will set up a separate thread for this.
My work will not be in the juried section, since I'm administering the show, but I'll set up a "wing" for it.
Hypatia, I think we need to see the steps for the pump handle stomp.

I've got plans for my return from MT...I am going to make curtains for the living room and my daughter's room and slip cover two chairs in the living room. She's gone for four weeks, and I have to find something to fill my time!

"Storms - cool or scary"
Definitely cool!
With the weather we've been having the last couple of days -- hot, sticky and the air clogged with exhaust fumes from all the effing tourists -- we need a good storm.
That said, 20 or so miles down the coast is Selsey, and when they get a storm it's sometimes a tornado -- missing roofs, exploding greenhouses, all that sort of jazz!

But you can create wonderful images, Lil! I envy you that - and if you can hold a tune I really hate you!

Exploding greenhouses?
Take me there....!
The best storm I ever saw was off Newhaven. Standing on the cliffs, (well, sitting in the car on the cliffs) watching the Le Harvre ferry run hell-for-leather for port, while the lightning hit the sea was unforgettable. And it was a peach - fork lighning and sheet lighning, wind and waves - magical stuff!

Oh yes. Sudden pressure differential, fragile and inflexible building material -- Boom!
Apparently I've got to wait until Wednesday before Brighton gets a downpour. A damn shame really as there is masses of dirt left lying around from the, well, dirt who drove in this weekend, that needs washing away

My husband is going to Bournemouth on business (not pleasure, so he's not a tourist this coming Saturday. Any advice, suggestions or warnings?
Incidentally, for those of you relatively new to the Atelier, I live on the shore in New Jersey, where we get our fair share of tourists. We call them 'bennies'. *Waves to d'E as he whizzes by on the Garden State Parkway. As if. More like a parking lot that a parkway in the summer.*
Lil, I'm looking forward to judging the photos.

One of the best storms I ever wittnessed was in Southern Utah. On a scouting trip to some unknown state park, we camped near a dry wash, deep in the desert. Lightning played across the horizon as a summer storm raged a few dozen miles away. An hour later we hear a rumble as water came rushing down teh wash, pushing debris and stone in it's bid to find the lowest elevation possible.

Hi, everyone ! Sorry about your little gallery debacle, Lil. Welcome, greydesk !
Was up late with the slumlord last night. I was just about to call it a night when he talks me into coming with him to get his boat from his workplace. Of course, he doesn't go right away. He has to call everyone he knows to tell them he's going boating. An hour later (about 6:30 AM) we go to get his boat. Of course we have to move about 4 vehicles just to get it out, and then stop for breakfast. We get home about 8:00, when Slumlord has to wake Marv to move his truck, so the boat can be put in the back yard. This might not seem so outrageous, until you consider Marv didn't get to bed until about 5:00 AM. I finally got to bed about 9:00. Hence I've only recently gotten up. That's OK because I work graveyard tonight, though.

I think my favorite storm ever was the one where I was sitting on the south rim of the grand canyon, way out at hermit's rest, where the tourists can't go after dark, and a monsoon rolled in with thunder and lightning, and then it rained like the dickens, and suddenly cleared and the moon was full. Amazing.

That is a regular Desert Rainstorm in this here neck of the, well, desert. We get very violent but brief rainstorms. And nothing in my entire experiance comapres to waking up in a desert after a rainstorm and seeing all the life in it's full glory, ejoying that all too rare substance, water.

My favorite storm.
Before Frank and I met, I was engaged to an attorney who owned a yacht. (We don't have any kids who lurk around here, do we?) We had it berthed at a marina at the Lake of the Ozarks and he taught me to be a pretty fair sailor. Then one warm July we decided to ship the boat to St. Louis, put it in the Mississippi and go to New Orleans.
We hadn't gotten very far - we were near Ste. Genevieve - when the most incredible electrical storm blew up. The lightning was just constant and it kept getting closer to us. Then the rain started and the wind came up and the river got really rough.
We lucked on a small cove and he dropped anchor. Then, being a man, he decided that since there was nothing else to do we should make love. So, we did...with the lightning flashing and the rain beating down and the boat rocking.

Now that's a storm story!
I found out I've got really odd eyes this weekend. My prescription has three sets of numbers for each eye. I though that was normal. But then I look at B's and he's only got one number for each eye. And it turns out that I can't have the new frames I'd picked out cos I have to have support all the way round the lens. It's because of stigmata, apparently, but I thought that was fairly common too. But the optition seemed terribly excited about it all, and insisted on explaining the whole thing to me (in Russian, you understand. Boy was that fun). So now I know more about my eyes than I ever wished to. And more about the testing process too. "This machine here measures.... It works like this... and, oh boy, have you got some kooky readings. And this is why..."

Names for tourists in our local patch? Grockles. In Cornwall they are amits - which is Cornish for ant, or so I've been told.
I put on a dress today which has lacings on the side and buttons up the front. I discovered that I have put six inches on the bust since the last time I laced the lacings! Still, it was a wake-up call, and I have at least started losing weight again, albeit very slowly.

The Cornish for tourist is spelled emmet and it does indeed mean . Strangely I once shared a flat with soemone whose surname was Emmet .
Bad double vision this morning. Baclog will have to wait. #884 I can't see to type.
A newbie called Mystic Martin gave me a reading. Very good value for money. F44441?thread=295048
