I got introduced to Wilco thanks to a certain FG. They are an interesting blend of Nashville and the Beatles.

I had a mammogram a couple of weeks ago...there was an "area of interest" they want to look at again in six months. No big deal, though. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself until December.

*Truly and deeply pleased that boots is all clear*
*Evious of anyone seeing REM*
But...
*Has tickets to see Bowie in November*
Not a bad day - got a lot done at work, and emptied, vacuumed and washed the car. I found a pair of green docs I couldn't find anywhere, (shoes, not boots, but all the same...) and my rucksack, which I desperately needed earlier in the week. The boot of that car is a space-time anomoly.
I am picking up my PL at Stansted with his son who is apparently 2 meters tall and 1 meter wide tomorrow - hence clearing everything including the rizla papers out of the car. I am taking them for a meal in Colnbrook (in a pub which claims to have a stuffed ostrich as part of the decor ) and dropping them at Heathrow for their flight into Radio Silence.
So tomorrow is a day I am both looking forward to, and not looking forward to. Even so, it should be fun!

Caer, I did look at that Move urban festival thing - held at the Old Trafford cricket ground (Lancashire County Cricket Club home ground) but decided I couldn't afford any of it. Apparently having the concerts there (they already have had Bruce Springsteen play this year) is a major moneyspinner for the club and given the way attendences at county matches are going, they need it.
Good to hear the all clear Boots
Bowie, now I'm envious Ben.

I am not going to mention concerts ever again because now I've gone
Bowie is so and I think it is wonderful that he always gives his musicians a good share of the limelight.
Just palced an order with Dominos for a pizza delivery. It is too hot to cook! Apparently on Monday the temp is likely to top 30ºC, scorchio!

30ºC is schorching?!? It is nearing 40ºC in SLC and I am sure that Phoenix or Dallas is much hotter.

Yeah, but be nice to us Brits, Marv. One thing I learned in Oz last year was that 40degrees in the desert is a cinch compared with the high 20s in the humidity of the coast. No-where in the UK is more than 70 miles from the sea.
The Swedish for 'humidity' is 'fukt' - and in the English summer I know we are well and truly fukt...

Also very few homes have air conditionning and if you don't buy an electric fan in December then come July you don't stand a in hell's chance of finding one. Every year we keep meaning to buy a portable air con unit and never do!
I agree with Ben, dry heat is much more bearable than the moisture laden air of our summers.

Oh I know all about dry vs wet heat, but there is a world of difference between 80F and 100F wich is what we have today. Of course, I hate humidity regardless of the temp at any rate. I like living in a desert, I just wish that the majority of the people here would realize that it is indeed a desert and behave as such. I am fairly sure that by the end of next month, water rationing will be put into place. Fines for washing cars and watering lawns. Jail time for repeat offenders. We have far too many people for our water reserves and this is in the middle of a drought as well.

Its 99°F here, and I certainly would try any pub featuring a stuffed ostrich as decoration (hey, why not?) and yes, I'm not crazy about REM but I do love my Wilco.

*in a state of bliss after spending the evening watching (and listening to) the semifinalists in the Finnish Tango Singer Competition on TV*
Only 3 young women and 3 young men left for tomorrow's finals - and my favourite male and favourite female singers are among those 6!
*feeling *very* Finnish indeed tonight*

Oh yes - about humidity and warmth - I once spent some very sweaty days in Salzburg (Austria) - the air was so humid that I was constantly sweating - but at the same time the air itself was rather cool, but putting on a jacket over my T-shirt... nope - that would have made me even sweatier... so I was sweating while my bare arms and hands turned cold...

Sweaty days I have known...
Sydney Australia, last November: I felt very big and blobby with my petite Malaysian friend as we walked at far too fast a clip along the beech front.
Gloucestershire, last weekend: it even managed to be humid in the pine woods we were walking in, and I comforted myself that stopping and smoking cigarettes was the best way to get rid of the flies.
Munich, last summer: when the weather finally broke I went out in the street, took off my shoes, and danced alone in the rain.
I am thankful I have never been anywhere where it is REALLY humid and hot. Singapore? I don't think so...

Durban in february, known as the suicide month. They have to close down schools and businesses when the humidity gets too high. A hot wind blows down from the mountains to compound the misery!
Anyone read the traveller? great article on 'place' name dropping. 'Borrowed' it from the clinic this morning...with permission or would that be remission?
We'll argue the Singapore humidity another day eh Ben
take care

Sweaty days? Try South Texas any day between May and October.
Going to bed. Things are at the so far so good stage. Oh!!! I drove home from the hospital through a terrific electrical storm. Lightning hit the ground just a few yards from me. There was this hugh explosion and the night lit up like noontime. Sparks were everywhere. Some of the sparks hit my windshield. Scared the crap out of me. The streetlights and everything else went out, so after the explosion and hugh flash it was pitch black. It must have hit a transformer.
Key: Complain about this post
