Hi, everyone ! I've been following the conversations, but for some reason, couldn't post on Friday. H2G2 kept booting me, not laetting me see some parts of the blog, and then it wouldn't let me post ! Don't know what's up with that.
Welcome, boots. Hope you enjoy the Atelier. Should be cleaning the house right now, but can't seem to get started. I think we need some bots. [smiley] Or possibly parents to oversee the place !

Morning all. Just home from the bar.
I have decided that the available women in SLC are not worth having. At least not those that frequent bars (long story).
I might be going boating tomorrow. It would be good to get out of the city for a few hours.

Touché! Hypatia!
Actually, I am not doing too badly on h2g2 minimeets this summer - I am planning on going to Bassman's party in September, and I see quite a bit of Rainbow, and I really must give Hoovooloo a ring. But it was a shame I missed the meet.
Yesterday was a day and a half. I only did about 250 miles, which sounds easy, but...
It was a long, hot, sticky day. My car doesn't have air conditioning, so we had the fan blowing and the windows down and we ended up driving from Stansted to Heathrow through London rather than around it because of an accident on the M25.
My PL likes short goodbyes, so the original plan had been to drop them at Heathrow, and go on to boots', but he rather endearingly wanted me to stick around while they were ground-side, so I parked up, and helped them queue. In fact we did simultanious queueing - he for the tickets and we for the check-in. They got bulk-head seats for both legs of the journey - pretty essential for guys who are 6'2" and 6'4" embarking on a 30 hour flight.
PL is a disorganised and fretful traveller, but I am an organised and incredibly easy one, so all in all I provided a calming influence, not to mention liters of water, a pair of compression socks and a hipflask of rum. Well, they were flying Emirates Air, and I couldn't bear the thought of them doing that distance on a dry airline! Mind you - singing "Always look on the bright side of life" with the arms held out in a cruciform is not particularly culturally sensitive in a predominantly islamic queue!
So that was a god job done, and then on to boots'. She had done a window in h2g2's honour, with s and a ballon! I had the most wonderful evening meeting her and assorted friends and family, and ended up dancing by the table in the restaurant (not ON the table - note!) to a live rendition of "Delilah".
I am not sure whether it is cool or scary that I can stand up and dance in the middle of an Italian Restaurant with someone I met for the first time 3 minutes ago, while the people who are eating their tortellini and tiramisus watch us (and smile), and do it STONE COLD SOBER!
It seems that I will be having a fun-packed time while my PL is in radio silence - today I am meeting my own sister's family in Bath.
I am going to be shattered on Monday.

Oh! Ben, if you agree to come here for a mini-meet, I'll dance with you! Do you know how to do the pump handle stomp?

A Surrey mini meet sounds . Perhaps we could include Kent too, so that coely could come.
As for dancing, H and I often get complimented and have even offered ourselves as dance starters at parties. Sadly though, no one has yet taken us up on the offer

Good day y'all. Another very hot day. Bryce, I got your email and will get your OTD particklers changed right away.
Glad to see everyone and their SO's on the upward path.
I mentioned a cocktail party on Friday evening where I was supposed to meet the radio people... It was the kickoff day for the Lincoln County Art Loop and Expo, and the gallery owners arranged this catered party to which they invited all their wealthy friends (one crowd charted a jet and came together).
Cille, who runs the place, warned me in advance that my work had been taken off the wall in the main room and moved to a back room, and when I found the stuff I wasn't displeased with the way it had been laid out except that she had put the trilogy out of order, and I was in a room with interesting work, AND my works were at least facing the entrance.
In my place in the front room went to 5-figure stuff -- I'm going up with the camera later and bootleg some pictures so you all can judge for yourself.
The world bomb, which I had worked hard to finish and delivered to Cille in the afternoon, was nowhere in sight, unless it was already sold.
I should add that the owners had not invited the artists! We were supposed to find out by reading the papers and believing that we were entitled to be there. There were name badges on the desk for artists, but no badge had been made up for me. So I drifted around, looked at the work, chatted with some neighbors, and had a really nice conversation with another unbadged artist, a retired marine biologist who had done some gorgeous wood carvings that were selling well.
The Texans hung together in raucous groups and did not look, overall, like the kind of people I wanted to barge into the middle of in order to introduce myself as an artist and lead them to my works.
The radio people did not show up.
I left early, doffed my fancy clothes, washed off the makeup and did some work, trying to overcome that nose-out-of-joint feeling.
Who knows? I may get to the gallery and discover that my work is all sold.
I finally figured out how to open the Speed Graphic that arrived on Thursday. the lens is filthy and the whole thing is going to need a professional clean. Unless I can trade it for a medium or wide format in working order. I have it pretty well dated to 1949-1953, from web research.

Lil, that is all *outrageous*! What the bloody hell do they think they would *do* without their artists? Ok - so I guess they could go out and find others, but that is NO excuse. It shows an arrogance and lack of respect which is deplorable.
Dance-starters at parties, Caerwynn? What a great idea! You should team up with boots and hire yourself out for weddings, bar mitzvahs and funerals. And the more the merrier. We can have a Grown-Up Meet for Grown-Up people. Do you know Zarquon's Singing Fish? She is lovely, and based in south London. And I'd like to meet Teuchter, too.
The Pump Handle Stomp, Hypatia? Sounds like one which is easier to do when drunk than sober!
My problem is that I decided when I was 28 that I couldn't be bothered to be embarrassed ever again, and I have been embarrassed only twice since. Once was by a friend who reminded me at a dinner party of something smart-aleky I had said at the age of 14, and the other would probably put you off your food, but involved hotel sheets an abnormal cycle and one of the nicer guys I've known. But dancing in public - drunk or sober - doesn't embarras me at all. Come to think of it, maybe the phrase "my problem is..." is the wrong one!
"The problem that other people can have with me is that when I was 28... etc"

Surrey meet? Put my name down! I have lived there in the past too, so I know my way around a little - well, as much as anyone who suffers from an inability to make and store cognitive maps can anyway. I studied at Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, Middlesex in the late 70's and lived around and about there for a while, including Hampton. The ex Mr lived in Walton on Thames when I met him. But we couldn't afford to live in Surrey as first time buyers which is how I ended back in Kent, where I had lived as a small child.
Hi boots! I told you I lurked all over the place.
Lil, that's dreadful. What about writing to the local paper about your experience?
