I have astigmatism too, but am short sighted, H has it with long sight. Mine improved with hard and gas permeable contact lenses. But since I started with daily disposables the astigmatism is gradually returning.
Now I'm getting long sighted as well, i.e I need glasses for reading. Having to wear lenses and glassess is a pain, but a lot better thatn bifocal glasses all the time.
There is no way I would consider laser eye surgery, it is not guaranteable that I wouldn't still need glasses afterwards.

Actually finished the work I had to do by 13.30, (which is more or less when I am supposed to finish), so I guess I have caught up with the time-critical backlog there. But even so, I felt like I was skiving when I went home.
The people at the lost property office have missed three posts with my phones. In theory it is supposed to be here tomorrow...
And, the interview I was going to on Thursday has been cancelled, but I am not too upset about it. It was too far to commute sensibly, so if they had offered me the job, I would have had a whole set of other problems.
But the main thing is that it is so bloody hot - 27deg C in the kitchen which is the coolest room in the flat. I long for Air Condiditioning!

Well it has finally happened, I have a internet connection back, I am connected to the again and on a less momentous note my washing machine is also working... yes Z is back from the back of beyond, (well a psychiatric hospital in East Birmingham)
Now if you just give me four days to read the backlog...

I also have astigmatisms in both eyes, but they are somewhat different. The eyesight is about 20-30 and 20-35, but it used to be 20-10. I am far-sighted and do not need glasses to drive, but I usually wear them anyway. I mostly need them for computer work (and I am not wearing them at the moment) and reading. I got them after 5 years or so of staring at a computer for a living. They are three years old now and I rather think that I should go back to the eye doc and get my eyes checked again.

To join in the conversation, I have myopia, (short sight) and slight astigmatism, I tend to wear contact lenese for University and work stuff because they're less hassle, and glasses for going out, because i look better in them, I'm convinced that without glasses I look like an overweight potateo. My optician looked a bit confused when I told him this. But i do have an amazaing ability to loose glasses, I've got throug three pairs in the last three years, fortunaly i get them half price as I get contact lenses on a direct debit scheme..

I used to lose my retainer (I had braces on my teeth for four years, 1979-1983) at the drop of a hat, anywhere, anytime. It would piss my parents off to no end, having to phone every pizza or hamburger joint within a 300 mile radius to find out if I happened to have left it *there*. One time they even made me go dumpster-diving to find it.

Have any of you had any experience with bi-focal contact lenses? I switched from soft contacts back to glasses about 12 years ago. Now I wear progressive lenses, but I'm thinking of trying the new bi-focal contacts.

Oooh that's another thing I'll add to my post article that i'm preparing, "22 reasons why it's great to be legally an adult - why I'm not having a crisis abuot my birthday" it's not of my parents concern when I loose my glasses or other expensive items.

My mom has bi-focal contacts and hates them, because unlike glasses, there's no "shift time" (as she calls it) between one and the other.

Extremely nearsighted, been wearing glasses since the age of 7, astigmatism in one eye, going cross-eyed if I'm without glasses for more than 24 hours (like contact lenses, which won't correct the cross-eyedness) or when I'm extremely tired, having a feeling of growing longsighted lately, since current glasses make really small text too small to read, except without glasses, really close up...

Oh Lil, as our resident printer geek, might I ask you if you know much about the Epson C62 printer?

No glasses, yet, thank goodness (20-20). I'm the last person on both sides of my family *not* wearing glasses. Give me another ten years and the battle will have been lost.

The art show is up and ready for all you jurors -- check F38024?thread=295886 . All artists, pro and amateur, will be interested to hear how the general public rates what they see!
Glasses: I am nearsighted and have Isolated Right Fourth Nerve Palsy, which apparently was caused by a traffic accident. It means that I see slightly double, straight out of one eye and rotated about 6 degrees counter-clockwise out of the other. My lenses correct this. And I'm happy with my computer bifocals -- I can flip from keyboard to screen without having to position my head that odd way you see so much, people pointing their chins at the screen!
Marv, I don't know the C62 personally, but I'll go over to your link and see what family it belongs to. What questions have you?
Oh, and storms -- the most beautiful I have ever seen was shortly after I moved here. There was a rainstorm with hail and the sun came out while it was happening. All the hailstone glittered like diamonds as they fell!

Lil, I just bought one and was hoping that it is getting favourable reviews. I have yet to print anything aside from the windows test print page. I have been needing a printer and I found it relativly cheap at Office Max.

Oh! That wasn't a link to an epson printer! It was a link to a site page here.
I just went off and had a look, and I see it's one of the latest generation. What are you going to use it for? Just be careful where you buy the cartridges: even OfficeMax discovered it had some bootleg carts with fake Epson packaging. The bootleg ink can really rip up a printer, so make sure about the packaging. There's an article about it in PC World; basically, if the price is really discounted, be suspicious.

Just a basic printer... Text, the odd webpage, perhaps a photo or two.

I haven't tried bifocal lenses, but have tried mono vision, one lens to correct myopia and the other weaker than needed for myopia, so allowing me to see better close to. It was alright for when I wasn't needing to see distances, but driving was a bit iffy.
My optician knows how much I loathe glasses too, Z, but I bought a pair of weeny ones that fit into a neat little case so that I can carry them easily in my for when I need to read anything when out and about. They are quite funky.
Eventually I shall have to go back to specs, as the astigmatism will worsen with soft lenses. My eyes are too dry now to wear gas permeables, I think it is a side effect of hypothyroidism.

Z Posted Jul 14, 2003
yes I think that may well be a side effect of hypothyroidism, because it gives you dry skin as well..
