Heatwaves and Storms

It is so stifling here at the moment that I can hardly breathe. Unfortunately, the window in the room housing my computer is distinctly unsafe and cannot be opened. Even with a fan going full pelt I am reduced to a melting blob. Still the forecast is for storms at the weekend. For once we haven't yet had the ones which flooded large tracts of the UK yesterday and are wreaking havoc across the European continent. This clouding-over was to be expected of course - the annual Perseids shower is just getting into its stride with the best viewing nights again scheduled for the 10^th to the 12^th of this month. What's the betting that the beautiful clear skies of the last few nights become overcast!

As announced last week we are pleased to start the new series, Unfinished History, by MaW. The X-Philes serial reaches an end but, never fear, more are on the way. The h2g2 Philosophical Society are running low on items. If you think you can come up with quirky or thought-provoking sayings then why not drop by and share them?

We certainly reach the heights this week. Our mountaineer tackles Curbar, Reinhard scales the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Smudger sees a human cannonball at first hand. This seems vaguely appropriate seeing as today is Atomic Bomb Day in the US and clowns are celebrated worldwide this week... a fact not missed by Quizzical.
