Bill Hicks was frighteningly prescient about our current situation - the things he was saying in 1991 (1992?) are amazingly relevant today - probably more relevant today than they were back then.

As an aside, to earlier comments: Los Angeles, which is one of the largest cities in the US, is composed mainly of "minorities" - ie non-caucasians. 2 of the major minority groups, Asian Americans and Latino americans almost always have recently immigrated. The culture and traditions they bring with them have certainly enriched the US tremendously. The original cultures of the people of the US does have a strong influence on thought & culture in the US. The effect may be less obvious with time, but it is there nonetheless.

I agree. Anybody who thinks Americans sprouted out of the ground like mushrooms and evolved their own unique thoughts and opinions in just 200 years is just fooling themselves. In fact, one of the reasons why the Palestinians and Iraqi people think the U.S. is out to get them is because America has a lot of Jewish immigrants. If immigration has no effect on subsequent generations, then their argument is specious... however, I think it's a valid point. I think that if there had been more Muslim immigrants to the United States, then our government would have a better understanding of the culture.

Hmm I never thought of that Lentilla. I mean, there are always conspiracy theorists who say that the US is run by the Jewish lobby (or some such nonsense), but anyway that perception must be much worse over in the MIddle east.

I also agree about what the US would be like if there had been more muslim immigrants - but I think the effect would be broader than just the US government - it would be the entire culture of the US, which would be more understanding of muslims, and this would in turn affect the government.

I believe that the changing face of US citizenry is what will finally change the *old boys club* that has ruled for decades. The liberal upswing in the 60's and 70's created a conservative swing back (which Clinton fought tooth and nail). Hopefully the next generation will swing them back again. Not until an *Average American* who is wearing a turban or veil, has something other than black or white skin is excepted in the media and entertainment industry will anything change. Not to mention the black / white division that US culture has embraced.

I think I know what you mean, though I object to your verbage. There were two waves of immigration, one in the 1920's, and one in the 1940's. In the 1920's, many Jewish people ended up in New York. In the 1940's, there were quite a few that went to California. Since then, it's been a pretty even distribution throughout the U.S.

Entertainment is what will break that barrier. The Jewish people gained acceptance through the popular media. Then African-Americans took on that hurdle, and really revolutionized entertainment - especially music. Now it's time for Arab-Americans. I'm looking forward to seeing what will come of all this mixed-up culture. It's been interesting so far!

Having actually lived in NYC, I can state that, while there are a lot of Orthodox Jews, mostly living in Brooklyn, there are as many Jews, Orthodox or not, living all across the United States.

My "useless information" was posted in order to provide a quick answer to what usually ends up being an argument in this thread. In other words, unlike some people, I know what I am talking about because I can back it up. Since you don't find actual fact of any use or benefit, I can only assume that that you are simply here to annoy everyone, which is what you seem to do on a regular basis. Since the posters such as yourself seem to have driven everyone else out, I will join them, yet again.
