Betsy Wetsy... I mean Oetzi reminds me of the kid I knew in high school that kept talking about the bomb he was building in his garage... He had all the GI Joe dolls, too. And liked to dress in fatigues... And probably joined up with the military when he was old enough - IF he passed the psych test, which is doubtful.

It really is a world-wide problem, except in Japan and China, where wisdom is honored and respected. The black culture in America tends to frown upon demonstration of proper grammar and book knowledge, because it's showing off a priviledged access to learning that not every black gets to have. For that matter, any economically disadvantaged strata, such as the poor whites in Arkansas, exhibits that same distrust of learning. Of course it's based on fear, but I think there's also some envy too.

My sources tell me that the Great Lakes ARE part of a "just in time" automotive production line. Anyone component, they say, may cross the water upto 4 times before ready and installed in the vehicle.

The whole US/Canada economic relationship is common enough around the world. Personally I like Toyota, but I drive german 'cause I can fix 'em. But I always buy N American tools kit IF it is affordable.
Which, unfortunetly, it is not.

From AUS we have the fabulous Triton products. From NZ we have butter. From Canada we have the world's best selling pick-up the FORD 150 TRUCK. From Britain you get our world class armed forces just to keep you all sleeping at night. And of course you get our Monarch, not least.

My experience of resentment towards "bookishness", futher education and receieved pronunciation is direct and through my working background.

Black people and the poor CAN SOMTIMES be seen to resent what they see as traits of the elite, thay resent the elite because ceratain sections of it keeps them poor and is felt to be condescending and derisory towards them.

Sadly this mirrors the prejudice that the disadvantaged groups them selves suffer. The upper classes with easier access to education do in part look down on those who do not do things in the way they do and vice verse. This only serves to deepen the divide. Whilst genuine and open interaction between does allow people on both sides to appreciate aspects of the others cultural life.

For instance most white people use the word COOL in its black slave meaning of self reliant, adept and independent minded, very rarely do you see even posh people say cool when they mean a peorson has a frosty personality.

All people of the world have a right to their own cultural heritage, there is nothing wrong with slang language, customs and morals are fluid. No one particular set of behaviours is better than any other.

Excuse me, are you serious? You've lumped some things in with others that don't go together, to make a very sweeping statement here, some of which is indubitably correct:"All people of the world have a right to their own cultural heritage, there is nothing wrong with slang.<<
and the rest of which is highly debatable.

Is it becuse Americans ar all so overweight that they need the extra loadspace? Is it because it's easier to fit a gun rack? Is it because driving a gas guzzling machine reinforces the American belief that they enjoy an innate superiority and are therefore entitled to more than their share of the world's vanishing resources? Is it because it reinforces the American belief that they have the right to wantonly invade the world's second largest oil-producing nation and steal its resources? Is it all of the above?
