If that was why SoRB was banned, then the irony is that he got her name wrong anyway. She once linked to a page with some of her poetry on it that contained her real name, and it wasn't the same as what SoRB posted.

Writing from memory, of course, so could be wrong...

Della also stalked me on the Mediawatchwatch site posting a message directly at me with the same petty vehemence as she always did...she only posted the once when I pointed out to the people on the site that it's strange that someone living in New Zealand has a particular unhealthy fascination with things going on in the UK to the point of apparently stalking people to carry on making petty, put-downable statements.

I remember that - bizarre incident. The thing that surprises me is that she's got absolutely no security or privacy on her facebook page.

You'd think that someone who's annoyed as many as she has would take more care.

In the "I used to write for/play on H2G2 but now I'm addicted to Facebook" group she makes it pretty obvious who she is.

Bless her little cotton socks, like FB I kinda miss her sometimes.

Mrs Zen: Yes Lord Wolfenden was during your hiatus. There's a link earlier in this thread which explains why he was asked to leave. I can't even begin to give you a flavour of what things were like while he was posting ... but he posted a *lot*, and managed to derail a number of threads. MB's journal is a good place to look if you're interested, I think there were some links there.

Still reading this:-

" tell you, being banned (in effect for being too articulate) "

Kinda reminds me why I am glad not...

If I could transfer her ban onto warner, I would in a heartbeat. Her abusive parenting was passive at least.

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

>>She still lurks the threads y'know? So be careful what you say, shie might yikes you still.<<

So Della can still use her account?

Ben, Lord Wolfden was one of the great h2g2 sagas. Not great in a Lekz kind of way, but in a latter day kind of way, because of the way it impacted on the community. He was a researcher who posted ad nauseum on many threads, especially in Ask. His posting style was quite out of sync here, and that eventually grated on a lot of people. He has a major disability (muscular dystrophy?) and understandably this place gave him alot of people contact. The site was still pretty active then, and he was here often. His style was... personally I found it boring and often really annoying (from what I remember he would post complete non-sequiturs or useless posts in conversations, and he did this often and repeatedly, so if you were checking a thread's new posts you would get two of his inane posts for every one of someone else's).

He seemed to lack both the intellectualism and the crazy madness of this place and it was hard for him to find his place I think. I don't know what it was exactly, because it's not like he's the only person here with odd social skills.

Anyway, the posting in Ask drove people nuts, and it got bad enough that a number of people started hassling him. Lots of in-house Wolfden jokes and parodies sprang up all over h2g2, which just made him worse (he seemed not to get it, and his response was to post more and more in the same manner). It got pretty nasty at times, which of course brought a lot of criticism from many other researchers who couldn't see what the problem was.

I think some researchers left the site because of him, or got banned because of their behaviour.

I felt empathy for him, because he didn't do anything evil or harmful to the site, but he really made the place unpleasant, so I think it was fair that he was suspended. The Eds and other researchers tried to get him pull his head in eg post in his journal, but I think it was too late by then. The Eds gave him warnings, but he couldn't keep within the boundaries they set, so they gave him a long term suspension. There is something about it in Announcements, 2006 I think.

And yeah, MB can probably give you alot more detail.

Thanks Kea - I'd pulled back by early 2006 and left in May so that's about right iin terms of timing. I was aware of Wolfden but he didn't affect me because I'd more or less pulled out of the public spaces by then.

I suspect that LeKZ's impact was a matter of timing. She was the first major nutter that the site and most people on it, including the italics, had ever had to deal with. If Wolfden had been first he'd have set the benchmark.

What's worse though - someone who's beyond the pale who gets themselves banned, or someone like Saturnine or indeed Hoo, who is perpetually rude, unpleasant and disruptive?

Don't you think our nutdar has improved? We sussed out Perpexing Appolonia - a rather patronising post-modernist nutter - and she elimated herself to somewhere less compexity-phobic pretty rapidly.

This does of course leave us with philosiophical questions about diversity and norms, but that's life, innit.

Thanks Kea.

Ben

I have only just noticed the subject line. From what has been written, I do not expect the community will be able to do that. The rules of the day will be what the editorial staff determine them to be. On a day by day basis.

I do find it amusing that more posts in this thread seem to want the return of vehemence, nastiness and arrogance vice the play-nice attitude of today.
