I'm a fan of SoRB. (Probably more a fan of Edward the Bonobo and Orcus, though.) I recall SoRB and Ed having at it once or twice: certainly a sight worth seeing. They had a bit of a tiff in the "Firemen Fined" conversation: F135418?thread=4645826.
I'd like to see him back.

Oops. I somehow managed to leave out Otto Fisch, whose arguments on belief I have quoted and referenced many times, and whose Post article on the hypocrisy fallacy I have often linked to.

No. You can't have SoRB back unless nighthoover and bluesshark are allowed back first... and LW too
I never relaly saw what all the fuss was with SoRB... I could* see what the fuss was with our howling 'friend'
Is but, and but well, like, though, and maybe, yet, somehow, if, well, it would, or like maybe not wouldn't but then, or, but, if like, though, naa, actually, or... no. I mean yes.

Has Hoo/SoRB/Smokehammer actually been given a life time ban? Any evidence of that?
Yes, yes, I've seen his post in the MoT thread, but the word 'banned' is being used in lots of different ways here. I've yet to see anything that counts as evidence other than that one post of his.
I've been missing Hoo. Before I can say if his alleged ban should be lifted, I'd need to know what he was, allegedly, banned for. And if it's a lifetime ban or what.

>>technically its not a lifetime ban - except it is, this is well before my time so idont know the actual facts, only waht the editors and other people have posted about him.
Does seem a tad strange that it didnt go through the voting process.
Even more interesting was that the thread discussing it was closed in order to prevent ridicule - to prevent the ridicule of the wolf? Or of the eds?<< nbb
I think by the time Wofie got suspended the Eds were much thinner on the ground and simply didn't have the time to put into protracted discussions. Their thread on suspending Wolfie pretty much says it was the amount of time needed to deal with him (rather than him having done anything terrible) that was the problem.

How exciting, Hoo's been banned? Fabulous news, couldn't have happened to a nicer person.
Thanks for letting me know I'll be walking on air for the rest of the day.

My one comment that I think he deserves it is NOTHING LIKE the poison and bile he's been spreading for years and years and years on h2g2.
Sadly I expect the house rules won't let me go into more detail as I'll be deemed to be having a go at someone who can't answer back if indeed he is banned.
I've seen the upset he's caused staff who really didn't deserve it. If that means being pleased he's gone makes me a total shit, then so be it.

When I joined h2g2 a pigeon started to form for Hoo labelled "Utterly Obnoxious " and it was quickly filled with pigeon.

The calling of Hoo obnoxious, horrible etc by some people on the site is the same as some people calling atheists angry, arrogant, militant i.e. because athiests are willing to challenge religious views, point out the gaping logic holes in the religious 'argument' and make people uncomfortable about their beliefs when they start questioning themselves and have to defend themselves to stop themselves having sense and rationality filter into their heads then these athiests are called angry, arrogant, militant to make them seem 'in the wrong'.
Hoo called people on their views pointed out the the holes and downright illogic in peoples 'beliefs' and yes got a bit p1ssy when people refused to take on board logic and preferred to run down the black corridor of 'faith' towards the bright light of mental dimness.
Tim Minchin's 'Storm' sums all this up beautifully.

>>Hoo's been banned? ... couldn't have happened to a nicer person.
Actually, and without irony, I don't think it could have done.
Someone asked if there was any evidence he'd been banned, and the answer is 'not on the site'. It was done without any announcement, debate or discussion on site or with him because - as Mina implied - he'd wound up an italic once too often. Which only goes to show when push comes to shove the italics are human and not sophisticated Turing machines. Who'd have thought?
I cannot remember to the standards of a court of law if I said 'have you had a lifetime ban then, Hoo?' and he said 'yes', but we've certainly discussed the site, his bans, the causes and consequences, and we did so on the basis that he'd received a lifetime ban, or a ban that he couldn't be @rsed to treat as temporary.
Mina's reaction displays a level of pettiness an spite which .... which .... I will put down to you having an off day, Dear. I hope the weekend sweetens your mood.
