>>Even more interesting was that the thread discussing it was closed in order to prevent ridicule - to prevent the ridicule of the wolf? Or of the eds?<<
It was protecting Wolfie - he was known to lurk after his ban - from certain Researchers who, as the Italics said, should have known better ( naming no names RF and MB).

Guilty as charged...although I did take a conscious decision just to ignore him months before he was finally banned.
He was, like a certain current researcher, his own worst enemy. Completely lacking in self-awareness.

Hoo would get my vote if he wanted to come back.
One of the sharpest wits h2g2 has ever seen, an innovative challenger of lazy conventions and always dazzling in his demolition of cant.
Just occasionally he stepped across the line, in his case getting a little too close to intellectual bullying and/or slipping into cynicism.
But these should have been forgiveable defects IMO.
I miss him. More to the point, the site misses him and others like him, smart people with a different perspective and genuine style.

I hope Wolfie latched onto Twitter. A whole internet of people sharing the minutae of their daily lives with all and sundry not giving a holy toss.
Who'd've thought he was an innovator, eh?

Innovator? You mean what I said?
I was talking about Hoo/SoRB.

Oh yes, Wolfie on Twitter, what a lovely thought, B. And I hope he's on Facebook too.

I would vote for *any* Researcher's ban to be lifted. And that includes a certain someone who repeatedly called me a liar.
I don't have any 'inside line' on SoRB, but my understanding is that he was drifting away from the site even before the ban (if ban it was). Besides... he's smart enough to come back on under a different ID if he was really serious about it.
Yes, he could be intimidating. But watching him and Ed squaring up...
I never came across Wolfenden.

Hoo, was "special".
His argument that people who are mentally ill and suicidal should be given the help they need to kill themselves on the NHS. So they didn't offend his eyes and NI contributions with "attention seeking".
His argument that the overweight should not only pay more for services such as airfares but also should have the decency not to go out in public where his eyes might be offended by them.
The contrast between his lack empathy toward others and his self-pitying rants when faced with challenges in own personal life.
It's rare to get that kind of self-righteous inanity from people that can spell and use grammar.
His value was more in how he got The Powers to change how they dealt with certain issues.

I would like to me my friend Rev Nick reinstated. The reason for his ban is a bit unclear, but it seems he just PO'd the wrong small group of people, who whinged and whined to the eds untill he was banned. Funny how this particular small group people have so much influence on hootoo, which i why i rarely visit this site anymore.

Didn't he have to leave because he was being stalked by his ex?

I remember enjoying a lot of his posts, they were certainly entertaining (Hoo that is). Not that I would have ever dared to contradict him! So, yeah, I'd probably support a reinstatement.

I recall some pretty juicy journals and I thought they had both left. I'd welcome either back (but not Wolfie)

I dont really know the details of any feud but I found Rev Nick to have his, um, strange moments. Perhaps he was considered to be too much of a risk? It's rare that I feel uncomfortable with people online, but every now and then I had a spider-sense tingle and to this day I've no idea what it is.

I said in the Complexity phobia thread that he seemed to have changed. I mentioned his post in the MOT thread.
After reading his comments in the Fried egg entry… It seems to me that his huge ego won´t change. I still think that he should be missed for the good, but honestly, I don´t see why I´d want to see a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde around H2.
As Gif says he can be here the moment he wants. But I don´t think he will behave different in relation to his nastiness.
What´s going on here, reminds me of a student I had. A clever boy, funny but also cruel with those he considered to be inferior. Despite that, many enjoyed his nasty comments. “He´s funny, cruel but he is witty and we have a laugh.” I tried to make them see that to laugh at his cruel comments wasn´t the best way to act.
He was given a few opportunities to be here, the first one, he came back with a nickname which was an insult to Della, the next time, I think, was with the name of Smokehammer. He didn´t try to disguise who he was in the BNP thread. He called some of us stupid ignorants, etc. Did you enjoy that?
He felt superior to me and tried to make fun of me. I told him that he was seeking the applause of those who love his churlish style. I really don´t like that kind of fun some of you seem to miss.
He can be bright at some aspects, but he seems unable to have a discusión without resorting to insults, witty or not, but insults. Not a clever nor desirable trait in my opinión.

It gives me deep joy that the title of this thread is 'Lifting an h2g2 ban' and not 'Lifting a h2g2 ban'. for making a simple geek very happy.

Indeed Mar, well put This obnoxious Mr Hyde side is what would make researchers unsubscribe at sight, and others not dare to contribute, which is a shame too (besides being neither clever nor desirable).
Mrs Zen - I almost left 'a h2g2 ban', because I had writen 'a hootoo ban' and changed that at the last moment. I can see we avoided a disaster here
