Not quite sure but i think i was speculating on why things were yiksed, though that could have been earlier.

This thread was originally based on how to "de-ban" someone - which hasnt yet been covered in great detail.
I think a change that has to be made is that the front page contains the names of those banned under the QotD - so it actually receives attention preventing bans from simply going unnoticed for peroids of time.
I cant speak for how our current Ed deals with banning as I havent seen anyone close to me on hootoo go through it.
Another problem is the fact that we only have the one ed - so that means there is only one source of power - which is bad for anything not jsut a social website.
One ed also means that they have less time to deal with things like pre-mod so could jsut resort to banning someone.
If the beeb actually decided to take care of us then this, any many other things, might just improve.

Hence a need for more than one ed - preferably back to three.
And no ed should be able to ban someone on their own accord, especially not quickly.
This thread is the minimum amount of argument that should go into each person's banning process.
But to make up my own view, rather than relying on others, will require me to watch someone else get banned. Which since h2g2 is quite "clean" atm we seldom get.

I'm not entirely sure why there's this weirdness going on. There's a big internet out there, use it.
If I hang out with a group of people and find they dont like me or I dont like them or whatever, a judgement call has to be made. Why am I spending time with these people? Is it worth my while? Are there other people doing similar things who I could spend time with? etc.
Sometimes, hanging around with people you dont get on with *no matter why that may be* is a pointless exercise in frustrating everybody. I dont expect people to change for me, if I dont like the way I'm treated, I move on. if the people I drank with of a weekend behaved in a way that was different to me and either their or my behaviour was an issue, I'd find other people to drink with... Why is it any different on here? I wouldn't join them to complain about it, what would be the point? And I've been messed around, lied about etc plenty of times, that's life sometimes. The more you spend time with like-minded people, the less it happens...

Oh, and just to be clear, I'm not suggesting we all hole up with people who agree with us and who we are entirely comfortable around That'd be dull!
I'm just suggesting that sometimes groups fracture beyond a point of no return and no amount of being upset about that can change it.

Have to agree with you on that on Hoode, and as long as people arent attacking every thread around the place it shouldnt be to difficult to avoid problems.
Well said

Perhaps friends should spread the news of the ban around when it happens then?
Then if they struggle to find people to care then that person may well warrant their ban.
It seems unlikely that people would have no opinion of someone who has to have done enough to get themselves banned.

I cant believe that people get banned for no reason, though i''ve been told it's happened, i've never seen it myself (but then I wouldn't...) I wonder how much 'but i didn't do anything' is people not being very aware of themselves in relation to others
Again, if one social group doesn't work for you, dont partake. It's a big world and there's always somewhere else to go. if you find yoursellf moving around a lot, then maybe take a second to consider what about your behaviour upsets other people so much or what it is you find so upsetting about other people.
One of the reasons I like it here so much is because so much of the internet is full of idiots not thinking before they speak and using the remoteness and sometimes the faceless aspects of the internet itself as an excuse to behave in a way they would NEVER consider in real life.
I refer you to most youtube comments threads

Nosebagbadger {Ace} Posted Oct 24, 2009
More stupid - true

But at least here you get *intelligent* conversation and normally civil people.

Ah, but do you try and force them to behave your way or do you just read them in horror, shake your head and move on?
I like to read them sometimes in the name of guity torture/pleasure.
It usually lasts for about a page before I have had quite enough of that thank you then I come back here for some real conversation. Well, unless it's a 2legs thread
