actually my brother was quite a promising musician years ago... wrote his own lyrics and tunes.. and he tried a banjo out..can't remember how he fared... but quitar was his thing....have to admit he had talent and good reviews, an appearance on the juice prog hosted by magenta devine but he let it all slip away because hes so lazy...

my youngest seems quite musical just bought her a quitar for crimbo she could hold a tune at 18 months and quite well too....

so keep it up... i mean the banjo playing of course....

I'm predominantly a guitarist too, but I'm having no trouble keeping all *three* up (actually it's more than three, but I don't like to brag).

There's a quote on my PS from Ronnie Lane's dad (Ronnie Lane of The Small Faces 'Wouldn't it be nice to get on with me naybahs!' fame) which sums up my attitude to music. I won't wuote it 'coz I'm proud of my PS and want people to see it!

Any of you that have sprogs, or sprogs on the horizon, please, please, please let them discover a musical instrument.

I've acquired a fascinating collection of blisters since buying the banjo. I'm experiancing pain in parts of my fingers that I didn't know I had. Which is odd, because usually when I find new things painful, it's not in the fingers...

i have one wanting to learn the karaoke machine!!!!! and piano and one wants the guitar , they're 6 and 5..

i myself learned the piano from 5 and can play the banjo... do i get any street cred for the banjo on here then?? i used to play in an oirish diddly aye session in a pub. was a hoot

i figured it was better instrument to learn cos with bango you learn that you sort of have same notes for fiddle, bass and the like?? so. good all rounder.

there's a cool school in west of ireland every year for learning all sorts of instruments. people come from all over to learn stuff.. small town but it has 22 pubs, and they are usually absolutely heaving and loads of music and craic day and night.
it's called the Willie Clancy Festival. worth a few days of anyone's summer. think it's usually in july..

Ooh, Aye bee, you just made me moist in my 'special places'. That sounds like heaven on a stick, and there's no Glasto this year...

I'm not doing anything really, just what I normally do when I get a new instrument which is flounder about until something sounds good then add bits. I'm playing it bare-finger as I don't want to muck up my guitar playing (I'm rather good at guitar playing<ego&gt and it's proving painful!

T&Y (or ZDT. Gosh I'm confused!), I'll have to poll the other members. As two of the three of us are on this thread (so that'd be a welcome to Aye bee) I reckon a majority affirmative motion could be carried in the absence of the other member (who's name I've forgotten but seems like a frightfully nice chap).

So, Aye bee, yay or neigh?

I also got a guitar for xmas! As well as a lot of people I know in RL i guess this was the year for it. I also play the flute (none of that boys) and I am glad that I learned an instrument cause it makes people jealous.

And for the record, you wouldn't want a flute there*, it's cold and it smells of metal (maybe cause its made of it) and theres twiddly screwy bits at one end and keys at the other.

oh goodie, another "flounder-abouter"; i haven't the remotest idea of chords 'n stuff, just know what sounds ok on bass, mandolin & voice; it's very funny 'cos i have absolutely no probs switching from mando to bass but "real" guitar players have fits "Eeek, it's backwards!!"
