>> why did you have to make a snipe of that post ~jwf~ <<
Because.. I have a reputation as a curmudgeon which must
be maintained in order to keep me on the fringes of this
society. All part of god's plan to give old people something
to do and make young people wonder why they do it.
Besides, the thread had gone off into an off-topic drift
for more than a half dozen posts; there was no one post
in particular I was criticising. It just seemed from here
(Canada) there might be a bit of British avoidance going on
in reaction to what is probably the biggest real news event
of the month. Year? Decade? An elephant in the room.
Seriously, one tires of war and terrorism and financial melt
-downs, national bankruptcies, mass murders and corrupt
politicians. But yes, we need to discuss them.
So, a little good news, even if it lies outside the national
interests of the site's majority, is worth mentioning.
It is after-all another giant leap for personkind.

Curiosity maybe been understated with fanfare
hopefully sure Brian Cox makes up for it, he does enthusiasm good

One thing I like about the internet is that curmudgeons from across the globe can come together.

"Aye, online porn is popular."
In the context of above posts this doesn't make sense to me swl. Were you thinking aloud?
What news story etc etc
~ jwf ~ scribblo ergo sum Posted Aug 8, 2012
I believe swl was referencing the words of John Lennon
regarding the coming, together, of things and persons;
especially those old enough to remember being mildly
shocked the first time they heard that lyric back in them
good old days when rock and roll was pushing the envelope
and the envelope wasn't full of white powders.

Morgan thinks you should show respect to him really; remember how you got to where you got sort of thing. I don't think Morgan or any crooked cronies helped Bradley in any way at all.
So that is the of that then

' . . . when the waitress comes back for round two, she won't take U. S. dollars.
Patrick smirks at the bills in your hand. "That doesn't even look like real money," he says. "That looks like play money."
There's a cash machine, but it won't take a debit card from the U. S. You go back and tell Patrick you're heading out to find a friendlier ATM.
"I'll change some bills for you," he says.
You hand him a couple of bills. He laughs at them. He pulls out a Canadian bill threaded with gleaming stripes of high-tech bullshit that flash in the spinning lights. The Canadian hundred is plastic now, he says, it won't even burn. "Yours are so old and sad. They look dirty."
"That's the reserve currency of the world," you say.
And finally he throws it in your face, the thing all these turbocharged modern Canadians are holding back, the thing they are not quite drunk enough to say:
"Used to be," he says. . .'

"Dandy owner DC Thomson to end comic's printed edition"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-19284222
Sad news, although the publishers say they have 'exciting' plans for the comics' characters, and that Desperate Dan has certainly not eaten his last cow pie.

"Judge Dredd writer John Wagner mourns The Dandy demise."

As a follow up to yesterday's sad news about the closure of the Dandy, John Wagner says his farewell.

Shame even in his condition he wants to kill people, or himself.
Still he can find the time to laugh.
