I grew up enthralled by the first landing on the moon, and all the subsequent Apollo missions. This is a very sad day.

sorry, swl said "Neil Armstrong, said to be the first man to walk on the moon, has died"
It's not really a moment for levity, but I think Neil Armstrong had a good innings.

Sad.
I had a space themed 11th birthday party the day they got back.

Xanatic, at that time people like Yuri and Neil got invitations to so many parties that they would have needed a warp drive to appear at all of them. But I think I can safely say that they blew people's minds.
Yuri Gagarin and Neil Armstrong inspired a generation. And another, and another.

Westminster to be closed for repairs at a cost of £3bn
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-19386492
Saying £3bn now means a final bill of £20-30bn I suppose.
Why do politicians have to be accommodated in Palaces anyway? Sell the thing to Trump as a hotel and have the politicians meet in town halls around the country.

I find it astounding that we have 3bn to reupulster some leather sofas and plaster the ceiling of the house of commons but no money to pay national debt or find homes for the needy or any number of more deserving things

I have had the pleasure to travel first class by Virgin Having also travelled 'first class' by other carriers the difference is startling; First Class by Virgin is genuinely First Class worthy of the several hundred pounds extra for a ticket, whilst the others are just a con and are second class with a first class sticker on the window.
The other carriers do not give free anything, no wifi, no free wine and try and get into the first class lounge at the weekend eh, no chance.
So the story that caught my attention was the government saying they will not delay selling the franchise to the yankie who knows if he gets it he doesn't have to deliver anything; because if the trains don't run the country stops.

"Archbishop Tutu refuses platform with Tony Blair over Iraq"

Its refreshing to see that some people will stand by their principles, and I hope Tony Blair feels the slap in the face this represents.

And it is to be hoped that the selectors have the requisite sized gonads to resist including cricketers who have a destructive influence in the dressing room when the squad to tour India in the winter is announced.

what about the international community condoning the terrorism the Israeli government has been inflicting on the Palestinian people?
But surely, not as odd that Hamas was created by the Mossad, eh?

The shop's owner Rajesh Shah, who sells men's clothing, said he was surprised he had upset people.
"I didn't know how much the name would disturb people," he told the AFP news agency.
Er! Somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5 million Indians died in WW2.
And re charging protesters with murder - I wish I could be more surprised.
