Well said, PP.
The Police could do no other than to pull that woman off the railings. Similarly with drunken attempts. Attempts such as those - in public - would make even me think there's something wrong.
When you're talking of that recent case or the terminally ill or those in unrelievable pain or those knowing they are past the point of any use or pleasure, then in my book it's official torture to prevent it... what's the word 'equivalent to criminal'?
thus spake one watching himself deteriorate (give me the pills please and let me choose) - and don't speak of pain to others as it'd be the lesser distress.

Well I disagree Rod; it just gives mass murderers a way to escape justice. Would Shipman have been convicted of mass murder if he had a lot of signed consent forms.
Just sign here; don't have to read it. te he he he.
The link above just goes to a fatal error page.

>>Would Shipman have been convicted of mass murder if he had a lot of signed consent forms.<<
What an utterly stupid argument. Shipman was a mass murderer with nothing to do with assisted suicide/euthanasia.

i think it would be better if you refrained from using insulting adjectives while arguing, HonestIago...
furthermore, it also would be better i think if arguing was done in another thread...
some of us are getting tired of clicking onto this thread to see the new posting is not some interesting news item but rather an ongoing discussion that some of us would rather not even be witness to...

HonestIago Posted Sep 10, 2012
Fluffy, an argument is an inanimate concept: it cannot be insulted. I referred to the argument as stupid, not anything or anyone else.

by association it insults the person who had the idea...
the idea would not exist unless someone created it...
and if you wish to continue this it would be better to do it elsewhere

I don't think PAL's comment can be disregarded by labelling it as stupid. But I also agree with Fluffy that the nature of the discussion could drive this thread off-topic, and put off those only wishing to come here to post on the topic of "what news story etc etc" ...

Teh interwebs is full of nonsense.
Sadly, my mate Rob has reported both of these spurious 'news' items in the last week and believed both to be true.

Christian father claims he "owns" his children. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/09/10/dad-says-hamilton-school-board-not-supporting-christian-beliefs
No, sir, children are human beings. Ownership of human beings is slavery and is generally frowned upon.

So-called streamlining of the benefit system, will it be an improvement?
I think not.

I found university rankings interesting. UCL is doing quite well I see, I'm allowed to borrow books from UCL as staff, but only through an agreement to share resources with a learned society.
I wished I went to Emmanuel College because I would have just sat by the pond and watched the fish all day, but I just missed 4 'A' grades and in any case only took them one at a time by correspondence so had to sit the university entrance exam.
Warwick is quite high up and I was advised to go there but I in fact went to a relatively unknown red brick university which seems to be ranked #67 in the world.
I suppose that isn't too bad.

I'm inclined to agree Mistadrong. The thought of people having to share private details, health records, bank numbers, over a public network such as at a library is frightening, and as for using the phone they have 0845 numbers that are £1 per minute from a non BT street phone, and in any case after keeping you waiting for 30 mins they just cut you off.
I used to keep phoning using my computer at 10p per minute to ask why they are not honouring a court judgement, but after being cut off over and over again and costing more than £5 I gave up.
