A friend of mine watched "The Lives of Others" and recommended it. It's in my queue. Applying the Reddyfreddy/PC Movie-Liking Rule, I'll probably like it.
Also watched "Death at a Funeral" this weekend; it was pretty good.

Banlieue 13 -- French w (occasionally mysterious/hilarious) English subtitles
An action/sci-fi/martial-arts thingy
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414852/
The first 20 minutes has some very entertaining 'parkour' footage, starring David Belle - the founder of the sport - but other than that don't expect much

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
A bit mixed was mine and family's reaction.
Can anyone explain to me if the fridge thing is even possible? Suspension of disbelief is one thing but come on!
General consensus was a series of scenes stitched together with no overall cohesion. For example - the skull faced crypt guards - where'd they go?
Minor gripes :
How do these elaborate sand traps reset? The Russians would have had a job catching up There were no steps.
Having *ahem* re-appear was a nice bit of continuity but the Marlon Brandoesque character was a bit of a non entity.
Ray Winston's character - okay I get what it was trying to do but the reveal at the end was a bit flat. I mean just compare the reversal of shooting Indy's father. "shooting me won't get you the grail - Dr Jones you are absolutely right."
First of all, correct me if I'm wrong. The first three films and the associated macguffins all have a thread running through them of belief: Nazis Vs "lightning...fire...the power of God" with Sodom and Gomorrah overtones. The Glowing Sankara stones which burn the Kali Priests hands causing him to fall when Indy chants. Finally the power of the Grail to save Indy's father, the ancient knight and the seal. Still with me? Good. Now I *think* I understand the ending of Crystal skull with multidimensional wossnames - but does anyone actually get what was going on? - and doesn't it rather sit outside the cannon?
Fun. Nonsense. Leave brain at door. but Fun.
Clive.
Now the long(ish) wait until Dark Knight.

Walk the Line - I'd been looking forward to this for ages, but frankly it was a bit dull. You could have told the story in about 3 sentences. Nice portrayals by Witherspoon and Phoenix.
Wild Hogs - I don't ususally go for slapstick style comedy but this made me laugh out loud several times. A good one to just kick shoes off and chill out with a can of beer on the sofa.

I really liked "The Lives of Others"....

I watched a Spanish horror that was on BBC4 last night called The Baby Room. Bloody good it was too. It didn't exploit it's own ideas as well as it could have but it was genuinely creepy and unsettling in a very economic way. Like old school horror where you don't actually see anything. I'm going to buy this as well as I think I might have missed quite a lot of hidden stuff.

Good that someone mentions a Spanish film. It is not cheap nationalism. It is just the feeling that anglosaxon culture seems to be the only one. That, or an extreme: cult movies that nobody knows but it is cool to say you have watched, but only to impress the flock.
To be fair, Psycocandy mentioned some of Alex de La Iglesia in the film thread. ( I know that she is a genuine lover of cinema)
Guillermo del Toro? If you like scary, horror, gore... movies he is the man you need. ( I don't like that genre much, though)
The last I've seen recently, The Bride Corpse. the umpteenth time. My daughter love it, and me too.

It has been a great hit here. I want to see it. Everyone I know who has watched it is really impressed.
Do you know Amenabar? A bit tough sometimes, but he is a genious.
Tesis( hard)
Mar adentro( based in a real story about euthanasia)
Los otros ( Nicole Kidman starring)

I´ve seen Los Otros which was decent. I can´t say I know the others. Most of my knowledge of spanish film is Almodovars stuff.

I've recorded but not yet watched Goya's Ghosts.

I didn't like much the Goya film. But I watched it untill the end. The actor, Francisco Rabal is really good.
Almodovar. The first films are very funny. Cheesy, eccentric, wild sex, crazy people, and many "autoctonal" references. Then he started to deep in feelings of love, homosexual and heterosexual. Ruptures, unrequitted, passionate love affairs.
He is very much appreciated by women. I don't know if it is a commonplace but some homosexual men connect with women feelings far better than heteros.

Almodovar- I've seen a few of his, and liked "Dark Habits" quite a bit.
Alex de la Iglesia- I've seen "Day of the Beast", "Accion Mutante" (boy, was that fun!) and I've got that "Baby Room" one on the list to see.
I've had a couple of hectic weeks so we're a bit behind (and a friend loaned us a whole bunch of "Farscape" DVDs which have taken some time away from films), but last night we watched an older Italian film called "I Pugni in Tasca" ("Fists in the Pocket"). What a cool flick!

Not quite a film, but pc just reminded me of it - a mate lent me the Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars DVDs a few weeks back.
It was awesome - I was so disappointed by the anti-climax of the series finale, and the Peacekeeper Wars really wrapped up the story well.
Not to give anything away, but the final scene has really lodged itself in my mind.

I'm saving that one till we've watched all the episodes. Now I'm really anxious to keep going! I never got to see it while it was on TV, because it ran on cable, and then they suddenly cancelled it without ending it, so it's good to know that "Peacekeeper Wars" ties it all up.

Well, I found a bargain bin ex-rental dvd of Schindler's list: bought it, took it home, put it in, pressed play, watched the fil'um... 2 hours-ish later "please insert disk two". What? *checks box* There is no ****ing disk 2!
This is worse than when I found out I'd bought the bizarre remake of Altered States on vhs that suddenly turns into a recording of Barnie the Dinosaur after half an hour. That was pretty altered I thought. I MUST STOP BEING A TIGHT WAD.
Does anyone know the name of the Almodovar film with the soporific gazpacho and the intensely decorated taxi interior? Was it Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown? My favourite Spanish film is Jamon, jamon. (Ham, ham?) Sex, Ham and Underpants

Saw the Indy film and I thought it was quite fun, rather silly but fun, which was pretty much what I was expecting from it so I wasn't dissapointed.

Did it seem like the other movies, or did it end up as a parody of itself?
