blues shark.... as always when we make reports on here its about our own particular feelings... so if i particularly felt that singing hymns as i burn to death cheesy then thats my perogative.. you are welcome to have your opinion..

and about the ending i DID actually say why didn't they alter it completely as a remake of harvest home as it has so many similarities.. in fact after posting that i googled the film [the dark secret of harvest home]and found several others being reminded of it thru the new whicker man..

anyway sorry if i have upset you by commenting adversely on one of your fav films... but no need to attack as ever..

You've not upset me in the least - I merely want to know *why* you think the ending of the original Wicker Man is cheesy, because the way you worded it made it seem as though you felt it was 'cheesy' simply because a Christian was facing death in his own way.

Opinions without something to back them up are pretty meaningless, no?

Saw Spirit Of The Beehive last night. Another beautifully shot film concerning a couple of young girls in a village in Franco's Spain, brilliantly performed by those concerned. Good luck finding a plot though - it was gorgeous to look at but it took an hour for anything to happen that mattered a damn. smiley - erm

Next week is the last film of the course, the féted Delicatessen; and in fact, the last course at all. The Film Theatre hasn't the funding for this sort of thing any more, and is itself at risk, which is a hell of a shame.

Wahooo! That was fantastic!

It was well written, well shot, decently acted and the plot was great. The parodies / satyre bits worked great and we laughed our heads off. There are some 'Shaun of the Dead' references for those that have seen both, and some familiar faces pop up, most interestingly Julia Deakin as the land lady in the local pub.

Highly recommended viewing, smiley - oksmiley - ok, and smiley - starsmiley - starsmiley - starsmiley - starsmiley - star

Watched "The Science of Sleep" on DVD last night. I quite liked it! I enjoyed the way dreams and reality overlapped.

I just finished watching The Prestige, and I must say it is actually really good. There is perhaps one part of it that is hard to swallow, but the movie is good even without that.

blues shark.. actually opinions don't always HAVE to be backed up for any reason.. i can choose to like or dislike something entirely on my own 'feelings' that can't always be explained..

however in the case of a man burning to death by pagans i PERSONALLY would not want to worship a god that would let me die in this horrendous way if he does indeed exist and thats another whole argument but respect me for my opinions and i'll do like wise...

i frequent this thread for my love of movies.. i'm not here to get involved with petty sniping about my tastes or yours... each to their own i say... i spend much of my work time defending peoples rights arguing cases etc i just want to exchange opinions with the other posters not get involved in bitching.. fair enough???

and onto better things SLIGHT SPOILER FOR HOT FUZZ
well we loved it..10/10. quite brilliant my favourite quote from film.."they're attacking us with fruit"smiley - laugh [supermarket scene] i preferred it to shaun of the dead, we especially liked paddy considine..
definitely one for the collection..

and BLOOD DIAMOND.. like shooting dogs and hotel rwanda a hard hitting film..very disturbing.. wondering how much of it is factual.. is there really a soloman vandy? might imdb it...9/10

Apart from david Thewliss who if there is any justice will be given more roles like this because he brought a demonic energy that you only normally get from Jack nicholson, if oufnd hannibal rising to be very run of the the mill I wouldnt have gone to see Silence of the Lambs of the back of it.

Finally got around to watching Jarhead today and enjoyed it very much. Well-acted by everyone, well-written (the book is excellent so I'm not that surprised by this) and just good to watch.

Hot Fuzz.

Dazzling. A veritable smorgasbord of geeky references, riotous comedy and great British actors haviong a whale of a time - Jim (we are not worthy) Broadbent, David Threllfall, Billie Whitelaw and a host of others.

And a trailer for Simon Pegg's next, 'Run, Fatboy, Run' with Dylan Moran which looks pretty damn funny as well. Though in our childish way, myself and SLG were far more excited by The Transformers trailer... smiley - laugh
