>>Yet another white boy saves Africa story<<
Except in Blood Diamonds its actually a white African, which was kinda unusual, and he doesn't save Africa, he helps to change things - he's only one of a few characters involved.
One the reasons I liked it so much was because it didn't resort to cliches much at all.

i'd love to see blood diamonds but at a 15 rating we will need to organise baby sitter.. a colleague went to see it and she said it was very good but very dodgy accents apparently, with the leads accent quite changable?? speck she means leonardo, anyone else agree with that..

In my experience, you only start to notice things like the dodginess of accents if you're not engaging with the characters in the film, and have time to distance and stand back from what you're watching. Which means, frankly, you're bored by what's happening on screen, for whatever reason...poor plotting, lack of emotional involvement due to lack of characterisation, etc.
I don't go and watch films looking to pick holes in accents or similar...but if the entire edifice is unconvincing, I start to see all the other things wrong with the film.
Agree? Disagree? Care?

I have to say I didn't really notice Leo DiCaprio's accent. I have a Zimbabwean mate, and Leo sounded quite similar to him, but I didn't focus on it.
I agree with RF though, I only usually notice accents if the film is pants. Apparently Natalie Portman's British accent is quite bad in V for Vendetta, but I find the film so engaging I don't really notice.

I finally saw Last King of Scotland with my friend A, we're both thinking of going to Africa to do Misson hospital work.
Afterwards I turned to her and said 'so shall we go and become GPs in Solihull then?'
Solihull - poshest bit of Birmingham.

Some Kinda Monster on More4 (UK TV Channel)
Metallica Documentary -charting the rise and fall of a band in distress - actually not as bad as it sounds. Enjoyed it.

oooh no, not Brum at all - now Sutton that's the post bit. Solihull is far too good to want to be included as part of Brum

Would that be the Royal Borough of Sutton Coldfield? Yep, I'd say that's the posh bit. Solihull is the posh town tacked on the side of Birmingham.
I remember there being arguments at one point as to which one was posher. I think Sutton cliched it by being a Royal Borough.

Well yes. Solihull is Solihull in it's own special way.. And then of course there's Harbourne (wall to wall doctors in some places) and Edgbaston which combines very posh with very very very scummy.

Lost in translation, not really worth watching. I used to live in Edgbaston but not the posh part, lol.

I finally watched Pixar's "Cars". I'm a big fan, and enjoyed this one, but for me it wasn't up to the level of "Monsters, Inc.", "Finding Nemo", etc. Maybe because of the voice acting, the earlier movies' characters grabbed me more - Ellen Degeneres, Tim Allen, Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Tom Hanks, etc.

we watched the new version of THE WICKER MAN...not my choice i hasten to add... it was never going to seriously challenge the original, and there were quite a few changes... i found the plot similar to a serialisation of the book HARVEST HOME where a matriarchal pagan society dominates the men...
i suppose i would have to say the ending is very violent and not so cheesy with edward woodward singing hymns like a loon... disa ppointing but then i knew it would be probably doesn't help being compared.. in my opinion they should have kept it as different as possible, in fact not call it the wicker man and just remake a film of the creepy harvest home.. has all the pagan elements, a foolish man looking for clues and olde world type folk..
ps does anyone remember that series on itv? would be around 1979? the book is by thomas tryon.

Having just sat and watched the Bafta awards, I want to see most of those nominated, and quickly.

Interesting. Why is a man affirming his faith in the face of death 'cheesy'?
Not to mention the obvious point that idf the ending has been changed then what is rthe point of the film?

I went to see The Last King Of Scotland last night. very good, with an amount of moral ambiguity around the protagonist, and Whittaker's portrayal of Idi Amin is fantastic. Gruesome in parts, be warned.

"Dracula" on Masterpiece Theater last night. Details here:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/dracula/index.html
Unlike what I've heard of some of Anne Rice's vampires, this Dracula has zero redeeming qualities. Except maybe that he respects " ... the peculiar rules of vampire etiquette, such as that a vampire can only go where freely invited." Unlike, say, the Bush administration ... (if the CIA is reading this, Hi, guys!)
