"my neighbourhood went socialist again with a comfortable majority of the vote, it looks like" [anhaga]
Do the antisocial neighbors have to move to another neighborhood?

Green is anti-social.
Orange is socialist.
J_z_d and I are in #45.
As background: the polls were *all* suggesting that the map would be almost completely green. In other words, the polls were all absolutely wrong +or-25% twenty times out of twenty.

The polls were wrong? Now, who expected that?
Predicting the future is fraught with error. People who claim to have a good track record are usually guilty of data mining -- i.e., spotlighting what they got right, while hiding their errors.

Must, really Must make a point of putting the aside long enough to pop by some afternoon. Very warm & personĂ¥ble woman. The original location-considering its limited size, certainly had a reasonably wide variety of s as I remember too. I would imagine that with a larger shop...

I noticed the climate article used 'Burma' rather than the name that I understand to have mostly replaced it (under the military regime that is mostly despised). Does anybody know how the CBC made its decision? I have to look up the source of 'Myanmar', but 'Burma' does represent only the dominant ethnicity linguistically.

I can't remember a time when this thread went unvisited for so long. On other threads, I had some nice conversations with clzoomer and jwf.
One nice thing about *this* thread is the continuing fondness for delicious, exotic foods and beverages. Has anyone discovered some special new sausages/coffees/chocolates/breads?

caramelized onion, red wine and pork sausages. And I mean the onions and wine are right in the sausage with the pork.

Handmade in small batches at Old Country Meat & Deli in the heart of the lovely Allendale neighbourhood of Edmonton.

Not that I have anything worth saying today,
except to say it is good to see anhaga and
this thread alive and well. Though I suspect
we could argue the relative degrees of life
and wellness.
Personally, all goes fairly well weather-wise
here on the Atlantic coast, now that the rainy
season and June-July fog has lifted and we've
had an inspirational visit from the Tall Ships.

Summer is finally here, just in time for the festival, two blocks away and two days away:

Time to buy my favourite hot sauce, iced coffee and some jerk chicken.

Bleeding festivals never stop around here! I had to tweet to the city at large last night to find out what the fireworks were for (my next-door neighbour answered). The city puts out a calendar to help you keep track: http://www.edmonton.com/for-visitors/festival-calendar.aspx I completely missed the Festival of Irish Literature. But the Freewill Shakespeare Festival was wonderful and attracted something like 10,000 people despite the monsoon we've been having.
Right now there's A Taste of Edmonton (a foodie thing), Capital Ex (A Carny thing), The Interstellar Rodeo starting tomorrow (a music thing), the Edmonton Indy just finished (a roady thing) and next months it's free movies outside downtown and the Heritage Festival and the Fringe and . . . I can't keep track!
And, ~ jwf ~, I continue to and check on a few threads every few days. Did you notice that Grand Pre was upgraded to a full World Heritage Site a few weeks ago? And the Edited Entry was updated as soon as I heard.
But I've been awfully busy blogging artsy things around town and bookish things from my Reading Room lately. Among other real life things.

Be it ever so humble, so busy, so frenetic, so tasty
or so artsy, there's no place like Real Life.

"a wonderful schedule of civic events"
I swear there are so many people partying that there can't actually be anyone working -- except artists, musicians and actors.
But somebody must be working since rumour has it more jobs were created in Edmonton in June than were created in all of the United States combined. (I doubt the rumour as the statistics I can find say Edmonton Metro, with a population of about a million created 12,000 new jobs while the U.S. managed to create 80,000 jobs for its slightly larger population)

Awkward Anglo Saxon from Anglia dropping by
We don't think in a dichotomy so much here. Mother earth from which Mother Effers emerged has decreed that a computer and a telly can also be a dreaming. Ask an Aussie Aboriginal.
And like Samuel Johnson dealing with that annoying sophistrist, Bishop Berkley...I bang my keyboard z xbm and roar like a lioness, "I refute it THUS."
I know, I know...you are all asking where your cricket bats are?
(4 hours and 11 mints to go until some real life telly watching).
