Something that might throw a spanner into the backroom works is the online and mail-in ballot situation. Close to half of the eligible members voted by mail or online and they got to use a preferential ballot (which still included Romeo Saganash, BTW). A good deal of the first ballot is already decided and a good deal of any other ballots is also already decided. A candidate taking his delegates across the floor between ballots won't have as much effect as it sometimes might.
first ballot results 10 am tomorrow.

That sounds like a complicated voting system. Is this the part of the process where would-be nominees are subjected to pain and frustration as a test of how well they're equipped for a general election and service in the bone-breaking arena of legislating?

It's complicated for the ballot counters, I'm sure.
But they made it very easy for the people voting.
a voting package went out in the mail. You could:
number the candidates in order of preference and mail back the ballot in advance
or
go online and number the candidates in order of preference in advance
or
go online during the convention and vote for the candidate of your choice on each ballot
or
go to the convention and vote on each ballot
As I understand the advance votes, if your first choice lost on the first ballot, your second choice would get your vote on the next ballot, and so on.
Very convenient, although quite complicated. I'm sure these computer-thingies are streamlining it a bit.

Down to four for the second ballot, if anyone is keeping track.

I still can't get over the fact that Singh got more votes than Ashton.

Well, April 23rd as election day here in Alberta. I just watched the brief video of Premier Redford's announcement & Ms. Smith's briefer rejoinder. Is it just me, or did her final/closing comment(& the wording of it) make her seem just a bit self-centered? "...the kind of government I will be.", as opposed to '...I will lead'??

Good for you! The video I watched is on the front page of the online Journal
Could be that in terms of this election the woman has neatly nipped Wild Rose aspirations in the bud.

Speaking of speeches, ya gotta admit that Niki Ashton gives a good one: http://www.nikiashton.ca/?p=437

Ah I now have my 'Rachel Notley' campaign sign as well(Rachel, not Linda?*shrugs* room for both i suppose). It had been mistakenly dropped off with a Russian immigrant across the street. Dmitri called a couple moments ago & I met him downstairs. He certainly seemed a very pleasant sort of fellow, I'll have to call back(his number is on my 'call display' )& possibly invite him out, for or beverage of his choosing.

Ah yes, the mixed blessings(so to speak) of modern media. Then again as they say any publicity(media coverage) is good publicity...

...Let's just hope we aren't forced to deal with intolerable and/or unavoidable weather phenomena. Speaking of which anhaga, I suspect a prairie drought may be on the horizon. I hope not, but I have substantial uncertainty in that regard.

"I suspect a prairie drought may be on the horizon."
The Alberta Government certainly seems to be expecting something, having extended the wildfire season already this year.
I don't have any doubt that we're in for substantial drying over the coming years, even if the oil industry finds a way to stop replacing oil underground with the flow of our rivers.
