Malabarista - now with added pony

My petty hate for today is DWG files without dimensioning. It's all well and good drawing them to scale, but if you put them in an exportable format, make some kind of concession to the fact that other programs won't use the same scale! smiley - cross Thank goodness for doorways. They help you guess the scale.

On the subject of CD cases and the like, DVD cases where it's all but impossible to get the DVD out. A while ago we bought the complete Cadfael on DVD. Every time I try to get one of the discs out, I'm worried the disc is going to break. The distributors have had to pack six DVDs into one holder and the things that hold each disc are really hard to use.

TC,

I have a dinky little CD wrapper cutter. I have no idea where I got it, but it has "Dean Markley" printed on it. Dean Markley sell musical instruments and strings, so it may have been a promotional thing.

It is about the diameter of a 2p piece and slightly thicker than a (single) CD. there is a small CD wide recess on the perimeter with a small blade inside. As you run it down the length of the side of the CD it cuts through the cellophane.

I have never seen another though, but I can't have the only one in the world.

My circular saw is ok, but the rest - smiley - bleep

Mind you, the battery powered tools are pretty good...
even then, their charger cords could be easier to coil & tie up.

On kitchen appliances, too - the cords are always longer than will fit round those silly hooks on the bottom. There should always be a clip to hold the cable just before the plug to keep it all in place.

Ideally there should be a holder for the plug, but because of all the different types of plug in use around the world, I understand that this is not a good idea.

Plugs? Gigahate of the day. Doug Adams called them "little dongly things" and he wasn´t even talking about mine...those big ugly things that come with every eeklectric charging contraptions you buy and none fits to anything you need charged.

fords, I completely agree with the cd holder bits being broken. Drives me crazy! Not only to they fall out all over the place when you open it, but it's then very difficult to get the cd to stay in place.

Don't you also just hate those stickers the manufacturers put onto CD cases and books? By the time you manage to peel them off the glue has ruined what's underneath anyway smiley - grr

Hotel bedrooms that are so unbearably hot that when you get your first night off in 17 months with the opportunity for a proper lie-in (defined as staying in bed, asleep, until at least 7am) you wake up at ten to six in a pool of sweat and can't get back to sleep again. Gah!

Oh, with you there. Stayed in a hotel in Dublin like that. The reception staff had heard it all before and even the hotel reviews said that it was an excellent hotel, but almost unbearably hot in some rooms smiley - erm I stayed twice because the first time I must've found the only room that wasn't hot. Second time ... smiley - puff Windows all open, fan on- not a blind bit of difference- was sweaty seconds after a shower smiley - yuk Twas something to do with the building design apparently smiley - erm

The assumption in any public building seems to be to err on the side of excess heat rather than risk the unthinkable of it being too cold. Never mind the fact that too cold is far easier to rectify than too warm. More clothes and/or excercise sorts out the too cold. Too warm? You get sweaty and uncomfortable and there's no quick fix. Goddammit, that's a big hate of mine!smiley - grr

Oh, and then they try to rectify it by putting the air conditioning on too much in summer. I've never understood why shops, hotels, all public buildings in fact, turn it on so high it gets chilly. If it was that cold indoors in winter they'd all be complaining and stoking up the heat. smiley - erm

And then you get that smiley - yuk transition when you go in or out of the building, too.

I agree. What's the idea of putting AC so cold that you need to put on a sweater when you're inside a building smiley - huh

Deb

I love going into a highly air-conditioned shop (like M&S food hall, eg) on a hot day. Blissful.

But only if you're there for no more than 10 minutes. And leaving again makes the outside heat seem twice as bad.

So probably not a good thing after all.

Deb smiley - cheerup
