What makes you feel old?

i just had to resurrect this thread. i've just been patronised by a child. this child dj's in his spare time and would only tell me he plays 'house' and dance music and refused to tell me any of the names of the people he plays; the assumption being i wouldn't have heard of any of them - the bloody check of the boy ... i've probably heard more music and seen more bands than he's had girls kiss his spotty arse

When do I feel old?
When I realise someone born in 1985 can actually drive a car.
When I'm told that wearing both a cap and a hooded top is some kind of fashion statement, and not a result of mishearing the weather forecast.
When I look in any reflective object.

My little brother turning 16. Ok, so I'm only 17 and a half but that makes me feel positively ancient!!

Going to a museum and seeing something I remember from my youth. One museum (I think it was the Science Museum, a few years ago) had a Commodore PET in it's computing exhibits. We had one at school. (I'm not telling you how old I was! ) I visited a local museum a few months ago and saw some things I remember from infant / junior school. I always thought that museums were for things from eons ago, not from my childhood!

I get scared by being given responsibility...I got very scared when I applied for my provisional driving lisecne and realised that I was old enough to drive things in all the catorgories. I don't really think I should be even allowed a moped.
Also the fact I can do things I've always wanted to do without having to ask permission from anyone.

Returning to the school you started at when you were four and everything was so far above your head and you could reach nothing and then returning to see those same objects were now under your knees...
Seeing kids you taught driving cars.
Getting cross because someone said of Simon and Garfunkle "That's a neat cover of that Bangles song"
I could complain for ever...

Thanks to everybody who's posted on this forum. You've made me feel a lot better.
I'm a few months away from 40 now. My face appears to be collapsing by the day. I can't believe it's really my face. Of course, we've been through a lot together, but I'm still holding up, and I feel my face should make more effort to do the same.
I can remember when I was young, how I veiwed people around 40. I can remember seeing 40 year old women in the pub, or at work, and thinking that for them, it was really all over. Now young people are looking at me that way, but I want to tell them, no, it's not like that, I still feel the same as you, and in no time at all, you'll look like me.
It's just that I expected a greater passage of time between 19 and 39. Who would imagine that 20 years would go by so quickly.
Well, like my mother wisely said, getting older is always better than the alternative. And in another 20 years I'll probably look back on 40 as my youth. I hope.

I feel old when I see kids I used to babysit graduate from high school and join the army.
I feel old when I hear songs on the radio that I used to love and can still remember the words to referred to as "classics."
I feel old when I look at pictures taken just a few short years ago and realize I can *never* get away with wearing *that* again.
And finally, I feel old when my friend's 8 year old kid tells me I am old.

The babies I work with make me feel old. They are 25. And the fact that I can make one of them blush just by looking at his ankles makes me feel very old.
I don't let myself feel old on a regular basis though, because in five or ten or twenty years time I will look back on myself now, and think how young I was then.

I feel old when the kids at school tell me I'm 173 instead of 35 when they guess. Can you get away with murder under those circumstances?
Also when I remember how much grey there is under the dye.

I'm feeling old after a trip to Marks and Sparks to buy underwear. Just realised how much better I looked naked at sixteen.
I'm now nineteen and the rot's set in...

My heart bleeds for you - I wish I was still 19.
I feel old when I've heard at least three women give *exactly the same* excuse for not going out with me.
