What makes you feel old?
Tefkat Posted Aug 9, 2002
I don't. It made me feel old. Why aren't the delicious looking older men interested in the delicious looking females' mothers?

Firstly, there are delicious older men and delicious looking older men.
Secondly, what's the problem with motherhood?

And it seems I am not the oldest around here any more.
Already I have so much free time, I cannot find any to logon here

I feel old EVERY morning when I look in the mirror and think "who's that old biddy with the wrinkles and grey streaks?"
Incog.

Incog. Sometimes when I look in the bathroom mirror I see my grandmother's face (as seen in the Victorian photo we have) looking back at me. Now THAT makes me feel old.
(Don't you get even wrinklier if you lose weight?)
Marjin, all through your working life you have things you plan to do once you retire. Do you actually do them? Does it match up to expectations?

Missing Morris Travellers, Tefkat? I drive to work everyday in a Morris Minor saloon - they're still out there!
Ancient Brit - weren't the pre-war motors' model numbers based on the old RAC horsepower rating? It was an arcane formula - I think it was the diameter of the bore (in inches of course) squared, multiplied by the number of cylinders and all divided by 2.5. Why 2.5 for goodness sake? I know they calculated the tax on it, which is why pre-war British cars tended to have undersquare engines with narrow bores and a long stroke. If I've got that wrong, I'd be interested to know the correct formula.
What makes me feel old? I can remember a load of old tosh like that, but I don't remember where I put my keys!

Tefkat, give me a break, it is just two days now!
There is a list of thing we like to do, but they will be spread out in time. The most important thing now is to find a new equilibrium.
But it is nice not to be restricted to the weekends for many things, like visiting friends elsewere in the country, or doing serious shopping, or painting our house, or....
Only logging on at h2g2 was easier from work

Only two days? Gosh, it seems longer than that. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun!
So when are you coming to visit us then?

As I remember (In old English Imperial Measurements) HP=2(Pi)NT/33000
N= No.Revs : T=Torgue in lbs.ft. I think 33000 was number lbs.ft/hour or something like that. The old brain tends to sieze up. I'll take the cylinder head off and de-coke it this weekend.
Happy days. BOF

Actually knowing what lbs and ft mean makes me feel old.
A question though. The jargon goes right over my head but being (or having been before the brain atrophied) a scientist I feel I ought to be able to work out what the bloke's prattling about. By lbs.ft does he mean lbs x feet or is he a non-mathematician trying to say lbs/ft?
ie: Is lbs.ft/hour analogous to (kg.m)/s or kg.m/s or is it kg/m/s?
Or to put it another way, what IS torque? (In words of one syllable that even a poor fluff-headed old triple-breasted whore can understand please )
