Hmmm
Mr or Mrs Allo Allo seems to exist as an entity only to note that this thread hadn't been moderated...
Then the thread gets yikesed several times...
Mr or Mrs Allo Allo clearly is not a real newbie or else wouldn't use site jargon 'mods'...
Any comments Mr or Mrs Allo Allo?

I got in touch with this one (Allô Allô) to see if he needed help in order to offer him 's services as an ACE.
Seems to me I was wasting my time on some unpleasant and cowardly character.

Bonjour tout les bodies
Pardon pour mon absence, mais un dose massive de RL has interdit mon access a cette ficile
Il comes as un grande disappointment to voir le post de les editors (post 850 je pense)
<< We would like to remind Researchers that Posting in Non-English languages is against the House Rules.
The House Rules state: "Postings or entries containing languages other than English may be removed". >>
Apres l'introduction de l'amendment re self moderation, je vraiment believed nous franglaisophones would continue notre fun dans un responsible manner sans interruption...
Le pense de translating tout notre mots into anglais est repugnant a me, mais si ca est qu'il takes, then c'est la vie

Hello everyone
Sorry about my absence, but a large dose of RL has forbidden my access to this thread

brings back memories when some peeps were doing that on LD... "new" usernames [you can also notice how it was especially chosen for their "mission"] just created to have a go at someone or a group of other users...
no originality there...
oooops i used a french word: mission...

six/seven: it would be the case if the complaint was genuine... but how can someone complain about foreign words in a thread _clearly_ entitled "lets parlez franglais"?!... they must have known what to expect from the start...

I've already given my reasons for thinking our thread doesn't deserve moderation.
I haven't said how frustrating I find it to be treated like a "naughty boy at the back of the classroom" for using French words on a Franglais thread (hidden postings are mostly mine).
OK, we're having fun here but it doesn't mean we're kids.
I've never been rude or anything and it infuriates me even more to find myself in a position where I feel the need to justify myself.
In addition, as a native French speaker who happily makes the effort of writing in English on all other threads, I find very offending to have my postings hidden on the only thread where French words seemed welcome so far.
It makes me feel very unwelcome and, in my opinion, does not comply with a forum which amongst other things supposed to be a guide to...
The Universe!!!

It's not great.
If it's any consolation, I have been moderated in the past for providing the French for "pass me that thing", with the translation underneath. *sigh*
I can understand why they don't want massive chunks of fluent French which they may not be able to understand, just in case we were plotting to blow up the channel tunnel or something, but anyone with a modicum of common sense and just a few words of French could get the gist of most of the postings here.
*sigh again*

Quel Dommage
What a shame (for all those who don't know what that means)
I thought that a switch to reactive moderation would lead to a more sensible application of the house rules, which though I understand the reason for their existence, I find a bit of a pain. I really don't know why someone would want to yikes a post on this thread, when it's clear that nothing nefarious is going on (indeed I would be happier letting my kids, if I had any, read this thread compared to some others on h2g2). I would like to suggest that the person who did yikes the post might have too much time on_their_hands!

Bonjour Monsieurs & Madammes
I only know a petite amount of French but I can understand the postings on this conversation and I am not very good at learning foreign languages.
This why it is called Franglais which is a mixture of French and Anglais,
It will encourage people to learn the French language and may even teach some French phrases to those interested in the language,
There are alot pf French based wprds in the English lamguage that are in common usage.

There are alot of French based words and phrases in common daily use. Look in the a good sized dictionary and you will find that our language either has Fremch based words or French phrases or words like maladies and blaze. I do know more but my spelling is not good in English or in French & I would have to consult a dictionary. I am typing this in the dark as it is 3.45 in the morning and I do not want to wake my parents up.
People are using French/Latin based words everyday without realising it.
Sorry for the errors in spelling.
The advertising industry and media also make use of Franglais.

To Virtual Resident -- The Guide's primary purpose is to catalog Life, The Universe, and Everything - but the secondary purpose is almost certainly to engage in, as you say, nonsensical babble. And I love h2g2 for it. If you are looking for a straightlaced website, man you are in the wrong place!
