but you can replace them with sellotape, so that's all right then.

Sellotape is also handy for amteur tree-growers. Should your fledgling plant suffer a breakage or bough, quick application of sellotape keps the sap inside and if your lucky the branch will continue to grow and eventually split the tape that had held it in place.

Tom Lehrer also wrote "magic -e"

<... He turned a dam (sic) - alakazam!
into a dame,
but my friend Sam,
stayed just the same....>

There should definitely be a guide entry about Tom Lehrer, but I only really know the songs & one radio interview I once heard any volunteers?

I had been reliably informed that the things on the end of shoelaces were called flugelbinders. Presumably this information is so useless its actually wrong.

One can only guess at the relationship between flugelbinders and flugelhorns... wonder what a flugel is?
There could be a collaborated guide entry on Tom Lehrer... any takers?

count me in - for what good it does. I might still have the tape of a radio interview with him that would be good background. I'll see what I can find. How does a collab. entry work?

Bit like peer review, I think... not really sure, but I imagine we'd start a conversation based on the entry and say what should be put in it. Don't know whose space it'd be on, though.

Surely halfway to the moon would be 20.000 leagues _over_ the sea?
