Farewell to the Rat-Ants
Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Oct 28, 2001
Could we have a link to the FACE story please? Lil was off on a quest and I was away seeking vetinary attention so we both missed it.

I'd like to know why this thread's suddenly started up again. As far as I can tell, nothing bad's come of this thread, so bringing up a discusion of its apparent 'consequences' seems a little pointless.
Furthermore to the above, the Rat-Ants are a major evildoing entity (entities?), and we can't go on with h2g2 without major badguys, even with STUMPED here.
I am glad the Continuity Gun is now inoperational, but wasn't that to be the end result of this whole thread anyway?
As an extra point, another example of all-powerful technology would be the Space Between Dimensions stuff that the Professor's working on. I am, however, restricting its use on h2g2 not because it would break continuity - on the contrary: it would uphold it, by definition - but because it's just terribly unfair.

The FACE stuff is right here in this thread. FACE is the real KL - the KL that we see here was brought from a James Bond movie script that was written on h2g2. The real KL is way far advanced and only appears as a floating face. Hence his name.
At least that is how I read it.
Affy explained on IM that what happened here was that KL basically undid the part of the story where the rat-ants were killed. He left the rest of the story intact. The continuity gun is based on the moderation software for the site, so it can be selective in what it "moderates". So they didn't die, they got shipped to Planet X. Everything else remained the same (nest is still flooded, the queen was still stolen, etc. etc.)

My stipulation in Post 180 refers to what happens to those rat-ants NEXT. I've already concurred about the rest.
Chris, I've posted here because I disagree strongly with something that happened in it. Or at least with one consequence, which is the point I'm carrying over from my last post (180). There is no shortage of bad guys or chaotic contributions, even without these rat-ants.
Garius says, "...KL basically undid the part of the story where the rat-ants were killed. He left the rest of the story intact." I'm saying that if you allow this to stand you set a precedent for other dis-continuous time-machine type actions whose consequences you might not like so much, or that you might not be able to control. You also leave a hole in the original piece of action.
I thought the consensus was, we let this thread stand because it's the first of its kind (is it?). My continuing argument is an effort to make sure that the damage is contained.

Lil, KL's not planning any damage with the rat-ants. They're his pets. If he uses them for anything, it'll probably be no more than guard duty.
Key: Complain about this post
