I wish to reflect about the tendency to stick to cliché mainstream flat concepts..instead of an intellectual curiosity in search for facts and ideas helping to understand reality in a deeper, more interactive, interdisciplinary way.

Do you have an example of what you mean by post 1? As it stands it is a bit vague and subjective.

Subjective...as each human expression for sure....I don't believe in pretended "objectivity"..I simply noticed that I get more and more confronted with a form of avoiding flatness in forum ...INSISTING on remaining "nice"...(nescius=ignorant),instead of truly being interest in sharing thoughts.I was asking myself..how to make a contra point to this actual flatness who appears like a disease of "looking away" from all aspects truly troubling our future.
I like it open..as I am not the centre of wisdom...and hope for an enriching conversation...maybe with people who had a similar impression and needed a space to reflect about it...
So,welcome to those willing to use this chat to share ideas&experiences.

hmmmmmmmm. No, still no idea what any of those words mean. That said, I misunderstood the word "Kosovan" once.
Just hazarding a guess, and at the risk of sounding thick- do you mean you would rather keep your opinions to yourself?

Hi Apollonia,
It's traditional in Ask (the forum where you started this thread) to ask a question of the community in the first post.

I'm not sure if I understand your post, but if I've got it right you are wanting some stimulating conversation here on h2g2. You're concerned that people are avoiding interesting sharing because they're more into being nice. That will make a few people laugh, given some of the extreme rudeness that exists here from time to time. But it is true that h2g2 has a reputation for being more respectful and thoughtful in its debate than many other places on the internet.
Myself, I've been noticing your posts and wondering about you. You seem to have some interesting things to say. I find the way you use language to be somewhat hard work in understanding and I think if you are new here that will make getting involved in the interesting debates difficult - people will find it harder to engage with you if your posts are too obscure.
When I'm finding h2g2 too 'flat', I find it changes if I get involved in threads and with people in ways that they find engaging.
I'm curious if you speak in RL like you write here? Can you make your language more straight forward? Communication is in the first instance all about making oneself understood to those we are communicating to

If I may, kea has made a point about your use of language which I would like to examine in the particular of your use of 'for' in the above quote from your post#1.
Most English speaking people I'm aware of here at h2g2 would be confused by the phrase 'in search for facts and ideas'. There's at least three other ways to say this, depending on whether 'search' is used as a verb or a noun.
As a verb search is usually followed by 'for'.
And as a noun you might have said 'in A search for facts...'
But without the 'A' the phrase 'in search' is more correctly followed by 'of' as 'in search of facts' or 'in search of shelter'.
These bumps in the road of understanding can be quite discomfiting and interfere with intelligent discourse if one is obliged to assume that some lack of education or intelligence is revealed in basic grammatical errors and syntactical ambiguities.
I realise the particular example is a minor flaw and probably explained as a simple typo where the indefinite article 'A' was accidentally omitted. And in part that's why I chose it to make my point. It might help others to see that your complex sentence does make sense with a little detective work and it gives you the excuse to say it was just a typo without getting into a pissing contest about some of your other less penetrable sentence structures.

well..my first language is not English..even if I went to international schools and studys...the conservation with my man happens to be in English.I noticed that the misunderstandings, the spell obsessions&mannerism appears mostly..when people stick to the surface...not wanting to be confronted with the inside meaning of what I say.Let your heart understand it!propose your own view!
The niceness addiction is CREATING some rudeness and is mostly a passive aggressive violent rude distortion of reality in itself.
Someone just felt "insulted" because I was insisting that the 70 had not be only about FASHION!!!!.
Not much to ad...the paradox absurdity is more than evident!
THAT is COMPLEXITY PHOBIA !A form of tunnel view illogical, mostly projected reductionism.
To disturb the recreation society/after a day of "hard labour"in a neoliberal middle class blahblah go-between job(who cares how it affect the whole as long the comfort zone remains untouched!!), on the way to hit us all into a wall full speed...appears as a human duty to me.
I think..I formulated it clearly...I wanted to create a space...for me and other...where thinking was not considered as offensive but as a necessity...and a possibility to share ways how to handle the generalised pink glass in dark times avoidance.

Thanks for explaining, I did wonder if it was a language issue.
I'm with you on the human duty bit
I have a disability through illness, and having to make sense of people's text when they don't use punctuation and spelling etc is actually quite hard work, often at the moment I don't have the energy. It helps to know that English is not your first language. Mostly there is a degree of latitude given here where people have good reasons for what they do.
I find the level of depth varies in conversations alot. I think both text and the kinds of people here tend to make the Serious (debate) discussions overly intellectual, sometimes academic and eventually (to me) boring. I'm interested in your idea that one can understand from the heart here, not something I find particularly easy in text. Also, I find that the more I know people individually the easier that is. There are people here who I understand much better now from having been alongside them in threads many times, even people some of whose views I might abhor. That familiarity breeds respect.
I'm curious about your thinking. People here do tend to be argumentative, myself included. But I've seen some pretty amazing discussions happen, often far into the threads once all the initial breast beating has been done.
Always up to some disturbing of the neoliberal middle class blahs I look forward to what you bring to hootoo.

dear new friends...I am dyslexic myself, and type with one finger.I am used to talk in several languages...but I make errors in all.
I find intellectual deepness(not doctrine patronising pompousness")refreshing...without my evening radio sessions in philosophy..I would have not survived caring for my mother who had Alzheimer, during years.
I think...thoughtfulness is not dividing into head/heart..but is the magic of understanding life interacting on each level.
I welcome everybody to share.."his/her way".
I deeply trust in our common ability to understand each other by remaining in touch with our senses making sense!.If not...we can ask!
I open this chat...to those like me...trusting into the human potential to think creatively...and not stuck "hierarchy ranking"like I experience many forums, where sarcasm kills each original outsider view.
Let´s discover together, where it might lead us..and I hope an interesting trip for all in this "free thinking" bus!

Feel free to create such a space, but don't go hi-jacking other people's journal threads (the comment on 70ies being all about fashion refers to a specific journal thread and no, no one there posted any such thing).
Trying to force people in an already existing thread who might actually *want* to indulge in 'niceness addiction' is very bad manners and you won't get any serious feedback until you learn how to behave. Sheesh, and you're supposed to be an adult? You rather come across as a thoroughly spoilt child to me, whining and insulting people because they won't play according to *your* rules.
As for complexity phobia, where is 2legs when you need him? He's complex enough for two at times

I'm all for interesting debate but it can be carried out in a reasonable fashion, without participants being disrespectful to each other.
If I want to spectate exercises in pointless point scoring, I'll tune into Today In Parliament.
To my mind, the ideal is when people with differing views on the same subject can discuss them and remain on friendly terms.
This isn't about being "nice". This is about behaving in a civilised manner.
And actually, one of the definitions of the word "nice" is "done with delicacy and skill"
I realise that the originator of this thread is not writing in their native language and is new to Hootoo but even making such allowances, I find it hard to understand what they are saying.

Apollonia, you could try The Forum A1146917, where some researchers go for more "serious" debate. People's journals do tend to be a little less formal and erudite (not that they're not just as enjoyable in their own way!)
It always annoys me that there's no link to The Forum from the Front Page.
Or for science questions and debates you could try in Science Explained A4108330.
